Pros
Strong technical workforce,Good benefits,Strong client base, Strong partnership with Microsoft
Cons
Poor knowledge management, Lack of tehnical training for consultants
Advice to Senior Management
Please provide opportunities for consultants to get participate in sales and delivery process, rather than letting limited set of higher level managers manage in all engagements. Too many initiatives with less focus on execution might not yeid the desired result.
Pros
Good people in the lower cadres
Good portfolio of clients
Good 401K
Cons
Excessive and obsessed focus on billing.
No external training. period.
Little focus on employee advancement
Advice to Senior Management
dont change rules affecting bonuses at the last hour.
Pros
If you like staff augmentation then this company is for you. They have been in business for a long time so they have built up relationships with companies so being staffed may come easier. Benefits are decent, but nothing that an extra $10 per hour can't buy. They only do work that is local to their location, but this can also be a double edged sword where if the local area is experiencing job loss then this is a very bad thing for you. If you want to further your career by becoming a sales man then this job is ideal because that is where all roads lead in order to advance.
Cons
If you like being a consultant vs just a warm body filling some seat then this staff augmentation based company is not for you. This company does not like to invest in their people or the infrastructure. Ultimately this is a French owned company so a huge portion of the profits are piped back to Capgemini. You had better remain billable with one of their clients (Even if it is work that you don't like), or there is a high likely hood that they will let you go. Just ask the dozens of consultants who stayed billable for years and then were let go on their first day back to the bench. This company is known for taking away pay and benefits from the employees in order to accommodate a certain profitability margin.
Advice to Senior Management
The consultants that are under your employ are not liabilities and thus should be treated like assets where you invest in those assets and thus making your company stronger. Making retro-active benefit changes mid-year is clearly not ethical so stand by your benefit decisions all year long as this will earn respect from the employees. Focus more on becoming more transparent with the work rather than keeping everyone at bay in their own silo.
Pros
They have smart technical people.
Cons
Unprofessional management, burn and churn employee practices.
Advice to Senior Management
Stick to staff augmentation and treat your employees with more respect.
Pros
Very collaborative environment where training is encouraged and resources are provided to offer that training. Structured growth potential, good bonus program.
Cons
Some lack of consistency in leadership, need more support at times for consultants - taking them out to lunch, letting them know they are doing a good job.
Advice to Senior Management
Better support of consultants would foster more loyalty to the company. Encourage morale, more company activities. Enforce program to make sure all consultants are getting attention at least once a quarter.
Pros
You get to learn a lot of new technologies, by necessity at least, since you get thrown to the wolves early and often.
Cons
A lot of nepotism exists, where it's more important to know the right people in order to get involved. If you get on the bad side of a senior manager, irregardless of reason, it's hard to get anything going.
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees. If there are dissatisfaction, maybe it's time to start listening to people voicing it, instead of badmouthing them when they eventually leave.
Pros
Access to training resources including MSDN subscription
Cons
Recently implemented benefits reduction, including profit sharing plan. 2008 was the best year ever, but the profit sharing was not paid in April of 2009 for 2008 siting the "economy".
Advice to Senior Management
Consider occasional compensation adjustments. They help to improve retention rates.
Pros
Sogeti is a pool of brilliant and technically proficient people who are not only very adept at what they do, but are also extroverted, out-going, and generally very approachable.
Exceptional benefits package, health/dental, PTO, 401k matching.
Cons
Though management puts on a dog-and-pony show about their dedication to the work-life balance and overall happiness of their employees, very little recognition is given to the worker bees.
Training and development are encouraged and emphasized, but virtually no time or resources are allocated to helping this end, short of an on-line library that even garage-scale staffing companies provide. All consultants are expected to be 100% billable to client, and all non-billable activities -- including business development, training, recruiting events, and even MANDATORY meetings -- are not compensated for and even deducted from PTO.
Houston local management is stubborn in their ways and shamelessly prioritizes bottom line over the morale of the general work force, hiding behind a slew of acronyms and trite sales-pitches.
Advice to Senior Management
Sogeti is a consulting services company. Your people are your assets. Recognize their value.
Pros
Decent Salary. decent benifits. Competent people.
Cons
Not many big clients. Not much to gain exxposure wise. I think they need to concentrate on building teams and execute projects as opposed to body shopping. I believe they have the competent people in place to accomplish that. Another think I would like to see happen better is an increase on the emphasis of training. They should do more external based training rather than just user groups and stuff.
Advice to Senior Management
I think they are doing good within their abilities
Pros
The benefits (401, tuition, insurance) package is aggressive and more than competitive.
Cons
Recognition for work/life balance is non-existent from the senior management. If you want to advance you have to be at the thumb of the management doing menial and useless tasks to illustrate that you are invested and willing to do whatever it will take to advance. Advancement requires full-time billable to a client in addition to 10-30 hours additional to "business development".
Although training is touted, receiving training is difficult if not impossible unless it is an online book.
The new "bonus" plan essentially eliminated chances for the majority of consultants to receive additional performance based incentives.
Communication with consultants is poor. Generally speaking consultants will hear critical information via the vine.
Advice to Senior Management
Recognize employees have responsibilities and priorities outside of the organization and do not punish them for putting families first. Demonstrate a level of loyalty to consultants.
