Pros
At Sogeti it's about driving your own success and putting in the extra effort to go above and beyond for our Clients and firm. I've never worked at a place where Consultants have so much power over their own careers. I appreciate that I can help decide what I work on, how much time I put into it and then actually see the impact of my hard work. Training opportunities are abundant and most Consultants are significantly better skilled than industry counterparts because of our ability to see and work on new tools, technologies and processes every few months.
Cons
If you require a lot of leadership and guidance in order to be successful than Sogeti or any other Consulting firm would be a challenge. Consultants at Sogeti define if and what they do outside of their 9-5 Client responsibilities and many choose not to do much else in terms of training, community activities, sales pursuits, etc that help to get them noticed and keep their careers moving upward.
Pros
Sogeti has proven to be a company where you can grow deep in the knowledge of your current position and also learn about other areas of interest to further your personal and professional development. When you need support from Sogeti, it starts at the Unit level and goes all the way up to Executive Management. Sogeti is excellent at making people feel like they are important and valuable. They constantly push you to reach new highs and challenge you to stand out. I heard a great quote my first week on the job and it was “be famous for something”. I believe that each person here can be famous for something and it will continue to make our Unit stronger- Stronger technically, stronger in delivery, stronger in perception and stronger in numbers.
Cons
Sogeti is still known in some markets as a Staff-Aug company. We need to continue to break that mold and strive towards high value business. The only other con I see is a lack of time spent together. We only get together with our entire unit once a quarter and I would like more opportunities to see my co-workers that are at other client sites.
Advice to Senior Management
I think that the management is doing great with driving home the vision of Sogeti. I like the support that we receive in our Unit. keep it up.
Pros
Great name brand, Good compensation, great benefits, Great people to work with
Cons
Sogeti is not too popular in Phoenix, Needs more marketing. Need to hire more Consultants that come from a Consulting background , who understand that side of business. Need to expand the number of Clients.
Advice to Senior Management
Lets not make too many changes every year
Pros
Sogeti forces you to learn new technology quickly, since they will frequently sell you as having skills you do not have.
Cons
Limited career growth.
Management focused on sales and metrics and not on the consultants.
Lack of any real training. I haven't had a Sogeti-sponsored class in 8 years.
The same day they lay off people for being on the bench too long, they'll send out recruiting emails for referrals.
Advice to Senior Management
The consultans are your only real assets. You need to realize that the consultants you are angering today, may just be the decision-makers at potential clients in the future. I think we're already atrting to see evidence of this.
Pros
The recent MSDN subscription to EMS consultants was very nice and generous. The quality of co-worker is generally good, have not encountered anyone that I feel is unqualified to be a software developer.
Cons
An extreme focus on enterprise level applications takes all of the joy out of development. Dealing with SharePoint, BizTalk, etc is miserable. Some clients suck all the life out of you too.
Advice to Senior Management
Learn more about what attracts good software developers to companies. Obviously profit is important to a company, but it is a bad thing when employees feel like they are treated solely as profit centers.
Pros
You will be forced to grow in whatever you do. This company throws you into deep water, which is not easy, but is great for character and career development. If you understand that growth comes through discomfort, you will benefit from working for Sogeti.
Cons
You are not going to get personal recognition for your hard work. This company is very big and you are very small and won't be visible. If you can stomach no recognition for what you sacrifice, you will grow here.
Advice to Senior Management
You really need to have more heart. There is very little concern for the people who actually get things done and too much concern for those who "sell" services. Sales people are not gods. They fail and need to be held accountable for their failures (which are many). Focus on the ones who have skills and get things done, and focus less on politics and process.
Pros
Working for this company will expose you to a lot of beneficial scenarios for learning more (sink or swim). Once you have been a consultant for a few years, you can do anything. Sogeti is very sales oriented which is good for bonuses and other variable compensation programs. Great profit sharing and 401(k) program.
Cons
Very little connection to other consultants and the office in general. The health benefits are crap. There is a high expectation for consultants to be experts in their field, but absolutely no support for learning further and no software at all. They expect employees to be masters of particular technologies, but don't supply access to the technologies. At Sogeti, you are on your own.
Advice to Senior Management
Get more connected with your people. We are your only asset.
Pros
Good resume builder, Sogeti name will hold some wait when looking for a job
Cons
Staff supp company, not much real focus on project work.
