Former Employee – worked at SolarWinds full-time for less than a year
Pros – They're very nice during the hiring process. Some of the Sales team are great at what they do, very cool market-leading products!
Cons – A complete lack of true accountability exists in upper management & they could care less about their people especially those in marketing.
Advice to Senior Management – Fire yourself. That's the only way you will save your horrible reputation in the market place. The word is out. SolarWinds is career step to nowhere for anyone in Marketing.

Current Employee – been working at SolarWinds full-time for more than a year
Pros – There were some great people that I worked alongside that had a general interest in the success of the company.
Cons – It was a very stressful job where little to no recognition is given.
Advice to Senior Management – Have business transparency where your workforce knows how the business is doing, rather than making them feel as though they are always behind on the number, only to find out they had good quarter, when earnings are released.

Current Employee – been working at SolarWinds full-time
Pros – SolarWinds is fast paced, dynamic, and definitely rewards people who know how to come in and get things done. You can advance quickly here if you demonstrate understanding of the model. Lots of room for company growth, the future is bright!
Cons – You are going to read a lot of bad reviews of SolarWinds on this site because we go through a lot of people. New hires either love it or hate it due to the pace and the working style. Lots of turnover on the sales floor, but there are a lot of sales people who have made it through the first few quarters and then do really well. You have to decide for yourself whether this is a good place for you.

Former Employee – worked at SolarWinds
Pros – nice office ?
and some colleagues
Cons – Terrible place to work. I fully agree with others here ...If you have no clue you can learn some (yourself) if you'll have a time to close enough tickets but if you have some experience avoid it will only mess your head up.and you'll be pissed ... Forget about being creative ... it's only work work nothing else .. Understaffed all the time ...
Expectations Sky High -Training NONE!!!
Advice to Senior Management – Hire more people this is not Sparta!!!!

Current Employee – been working at SolarWinds full-time for more than 3 years
Pros – It is a really fast paced company. you will not see alot of sitting around and doing nothing. or working on projects that simply get canceled. the company overall treats employees respectfully. the office environment is not bad at all. the twice a week lunches are OK. the quarterly bonus really helps you keep going vs an annual bonus.
Cons – too much short term focus on stock price. the company is left and right trying to move from one country to an other in hope of cheaper staff.
the company rush into external market does not appear to be exactly paying off.
you will have to report to the right people for your hardwork to get noticed.

Former Employee – worked at SolarWinds full-time
Pros – Pay is good.
Company is growing rapidly.
Opportunity to learn a truly innovative business model firsthand.
Cons – There is a small clique of execs and middle managers that create a massive bureaucracy.
Finger-pointing is the norm - very little teamwork.
Employees are treated as disposable resources.
Managers are challenged with unattainable goals, and then are not empowered with authority or budget to effect activities that could help get closer to goals.
Advice to Senior Management – Quit participating in group think within small cliques, and trust the people you've hired to do their job. It may not always be done exactly the way you thought it would be, but you might learn something from the experience of others.

Current Employee – been working at SolarWinds full-time for more than a year
Pros – free lunch twice a week
Cons – not interested in the people, board level makes money but thats about it - very heavy handed when it comes to Staff - leave and we will take legal action type set up, so staff are always watching over there shoulders - spent 2 years and best decision was the day I deciðed to leave
Advice to Senior Management – stop chasing the money, you got enough in the bank to start caring about staff well fare

Former Employee – worked at SolarWinds full-time for more than a year
Pros – Great co-workers, free lunches, good benefits. Good core business model. Some very talented people have been assembled in that building.
Cons – Managers love to throw employees under the bus, departments love to throw other departments under the bus, and you have to get comfortable with the idea that there’s always someone to blame for whatever trumped up metric is impacting your VP / Director's bonus that quarter -- keeping in mind it can’t ever be your manager or your team if you want to keep your job. Despite the fact that there are many talented folks there, you'll never know who you can trust or what the real motives are behind decisions. The teams don’t talk; you’ll get 8 different solutions for the same problem and then there’s always a struggle for which Director / VP you have to listen to.
Advice to Senior Management – Get your departments in sync. It'll lead to much happier workers. Don't tell two departments to work on two independent solutions to the same problem, tell the two departments to talk and agree on a solution. All those 27 year-old managers you promoted to Directors / VPs after the IPO (when the original talent took the payout and bailed)... most of them aren't helping you grow, they're just interested in watching their backs because they know they aren't qualified to be Directors / VPs anywhere else. Seen so many horrible ideas come out of VP's mouths, only to have some staffer get blamed for it (and often canned). Take responsibility for your own ideas.

Pros – It's relatively stable and growing.
Office location is pretty good.
Job is kind of interesting.
Gives opportunities to students.
Cons – Salaries are beneath market.
PCs used for development/testing just suck.
Working environment is noisier than you'd expect.
Overtimes aren't paid.
No work trips ever unless you're manager.
No educational programs or conferences.
Some technologies are way outdated.
Advice to Senior Management – Provide sufficient PCs for developers/testers.
Put up employee salaries at least to the market level.

Former Employee – worked at SolarWinds full-time for more than 7 years
Pros – Benefits are decent
Pay is okay (but not as good as the margins would indicate)
Free lunch twice per week
Cons – Politics have taken over.
Innovation has come and gone.
Employee feedback might as well be a punchline to a bad joke.
Advice to Senior Management – Pull your head out. Your ego has taken over what was once a successful collaboration of cross-functional teams.
