    I worked at SolarWorld

    Pros

5 weeks of vacation, sustainable business practices, decent pay, benefits are average, depending on manager, flexible in working from home, has several ISO certifications

    Cons

Business units work in silos making internal environment challenging for collaborating and implementing best business practices. Employees tend to keep to themselves and environment is stiff.

    Pros

provide good training. immediate supervisor let you be open to other ideas.

    Cons

Management sucks, especially HR & higher managers. They dont care about employees and their family. Due to cost cutting, gave more work to already burdened employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Care about your employees. Get rid of junk managers. Re-org HR and higher managers.

I worked at SolarWorld full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The time off and the amount of vacation
Take as much time off you want even if you do not have any sick time or vacation, you will not get in trouble for it

    Cons

    The health benefits are terrible.
The hourly rate is below industry standard. ieg: $10.50/hr (I was earning $12.00/hr)
    Management has not direction.
Leads do not know their own area or how to operate the equipment.
No accountability for ones actions or lack of.
    No room for advancement.
    No raises for three years.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Someone really needs to get the policies and procedures in order and follow them. Solarworld needs to get their leads, supervisors and ERTs versed on hippa privacy act. There is a law suit just waiting to happen.

I worked at SolarWorld as a contractor (less than a year)

    Pros

Decent pay - $11 is not bad for the general tasks given.
Nice place - Office areas are well air conditioned and generally clean.
Low requirement - They didn't seem to care for my degrees and previous experiences.

    Cons

Temp - We can make any kind of excuses to let you go.

Terrible condition - 12 hours of standing around a big oven. Sitting down for even a second gets you funny looks from the leads.

Unreasonable Expectations - I was told to retrieve from 4 stations of constant flow of cells, pack them into containers, place them in a cart, and deal with system errors that appears every 5 minutes, all at the same time. This task was clearly not meant for one person to handle. When I brought the issue up to the leads, I was told that they can do it blindfolded.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Please treat your employees, including temps, more than just expendable monkeys. If you cannot do so, please kindly remove your dying business from Hillsboro. The residents deserve better.

I have been working at SolarWorld full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    Vacation time
    Carrier advancement (for me)
Great people to work with (except senior management) Many people I worked with were very driven and self-motivated. Unfortunately without effective management this was not enough to drive the company to profitability. This is the company's greatest strength that is always overlooked.

    Cons

On the clock 24 hours. Very few understand appropriate escalation procedures even when documented in an OCAP. No accountability for engineers (especially if you’re German). Processes were changed on the fly without adequate data or an understanding of secondary effects. This led to MANY excursions which mysteriously resolved themselves without any understanding of root cause so they would often return. Layoffs made based on 'company need' and not individual performance or aptitude. Many promotions were based on who you know not what you can do.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I have none you all are hopeless and wouldn't listen anyway.

Former Employee - Anonymous Employee in Camarillo, CA

I worked at SolarWorld full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

The only PRO is the salary and the 5 week of vacation...if you are able to use all the 5 weeks!!!

    Cons

One day the company decided to "CHANGE" and the only thing that the Oregonian Managers decided to change was the number of employees in the Camarillo Office. From 70 to 50...six months later from 50 to 30...and today I'm assuming they have at least 6-7 employee left in the Sunny California.
The german company sold her soul to the Quatar buyer receiving money to be bankable for next two-three years.
The victims of this change were all the valuable employees located in Camarillo.
Today the company has no engineers left, only a couple of former-sharp employees (ohhhh myyyyy gosh! they are virus! that kill every company they work for!!!!) in Hillsboro.
There is no CUSTOMER SERVICE anymore!
The problem of this company is the number of the managers! The ratio is 10 managers every employee. One emp[oyee does all the hard job and ten person are there looking and making comments!
The construction managers didn't know the difference between a dish washer and a solar module!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire Engineers! Hire Designer! Hire Customer service Representative, hire people that knows how to make a company profitable! FIRE all the useless managers that are infesting the offices in Hillsboro!!!
