I worked at Solo Cup full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The original Solo Cup was a family owned business, which at one time I thought of leaving. But a Corporate Division Manager took me aside and told me that the "Family" took care of their long term employees. He voiced that I would be better off staying with the company. I heeded his advice and stayed for 36 years. During that time period the company helped 4 of my children graduate from college, and during their college years gave them a chance to work in the plant to earn money for school.

    Cons

When Solo bought and merged Sweetheart Cup company into the fold something changed in the Corporate attitude. Upper Management decided that the Solo Cup Manageress, (who had made the company profitable) were the ones who should be terminated, and the Sweetheart Managers (from a financially strapped company) should be put in charge. Most of these same people are still working for Dart.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

I hope that Dart Corporation does not follow the present way of thinking. They should take care of their long term employees, and get rid of the dead wood.

Thank you for letting me express my opinion. I gave 36 years of my life to the firm and one day my manager said I was not meeting his expectations.

    Pros

Pay is decent. Good benefits .

    Cons

Worked at Dallas plant 5 years. HR came in at 5am in the morning and laid off several employees with no advance notice. No severance.

    Pros

Some of the positives for working with this company is that you gain skillful experience each and everyday, the insurance benefits are great and most of the people you work with are friendly along with the staff.

    Cons

To me the challenges are just being able and willing to learn something new everyday.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

some advice to management is to stay alert and on top of things because you can be fired as quick as a regular employee.

I worked at Solo Cup full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Great salary. Good benefits. Easy to move to other departments and find a good fit to advance in your career

    Cons

Since Dart took over, things have changed a lot! Dart didnt really offer any current employees a position with the company. They eliminated our position at this location and if you want to relocated to Mason, MI (where they're headquartered) you'll have to apply all over again like a new applicant.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being so arrogant! Sometimes people in "lower" positions can be of great help to you

I have been working at Solo Cup

    Pros

Flexible Work Hours, Decent Benefits Package, Visible Well-Known Company, Limited Travel, Still Some Good People There, Pretty Easy Commute From The City

    Cons

Purchased By A Company That's Not Very Current or Modern, Lack Of Consistency From Management Standpoint, High Rate of Turnover

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Strengthen Attention on Integration Efforts, New Ownership Needs to Encourage More "Cross the Lake" Cohesiveness, It's Definitely Obvious That The Two Companies Don't Work Well Together.
