    Pros

Great training, good pay and bonus for a retail environment, flexible schedule, involvement by all senior management,

    Cons

Despite noted efforts, sometimes corporate decisions seem to be made on the spot and affect the performance of the stores, some of the corporate resources lack in supporting the stores and managers (IT is terrible), employee discounts could be more generous.

    Advice to Management

There is a good group of upper management evident by their constant efforts of engaging with the field, but need to get it together so things aren't sprung onto the stores. Also give store managers more lead in being able to plan for upcoming projects and promotions, and give store managers a little more ownership of their stores.

    Pros

The staff, the company itself is quite great, and everyone is easy going and helpful.

    Cons

I think the background check was the only excruciating part. Pretty much it I have no complaints.

    Advice to Management

Please update your salaries, I thought I would be paid 12-14 $ per hour, kind of got said when I didn't, but it's still good money, and oh! Give more hours.

    Pros

My DM and RM were both amazing. You could tell they were truly invested in making sure you succeed as did your store. The discount and benefits are pretty great. And they pay wasn't bad for the volume you're dealing with. You're hourly even as a SM so the pressure to work over 40 besides rarely in the holidays isn't there. So you don't end up working 60 hours a week. Work pretty much stays at work. Safilo as the parent company is a good company to work for. And is really trying to become a better company for its employees. My district, for the most part, really worked together and would help each other out. Having that network of support was critical to success and you sometimes lose that in bigger companies.

    Cons

There is a huge amount of turnover. At all levels. This can make for schedule issues and stress from not being fully staffed. Recruiting is hard because of the fact that only SM are full time and the skill level you need are people that don't want part time. It's nearly impossible to get a weekend off. Especially a Saturday. And you get good vacation time but using it hard due to staffing. Corporate is still not really getting what is going on at the store levels. As far as what promos work or don't. What styles/brands/colors work or don't. There are things gathering dust in one store that another store has daily request for but even when pointed out it takes an act of God to get it transferred. Smaller company than Sunglass Hut. Better in every aspect. But the lack of name recognition hurts. Sales are the main thing. Which is great until you have store managers who end up being no more than over paid salesmen. The pressure level expected is, to me, equivalent to that required to sale a car. You have very minimal payroll hours. You end up working 80% of your shifts alone. Part timers are given 5 hour or less shifts and get on avg 20 hours a week which makes it hard to recruit and keep top talent.

    Advice to Management

Work on listening to the store managers more. They know what the consumers are saying better than corporate office workers. Revamp the payroll matrix system to where SM's can be more of a manager than a salesman and to where you can give more hours to associates/key holders and maybe even have a full time keyholder. It would allow you to not only recruit and keep more talent, but have a stronger bench of candidates to develop into comanagers and store managers from within and thus reduce turnover.
