    Pros

I enjoyed being in the luxury environment of this job and learning about fashion. The stores are beautiful and everything is extremely customer-oriented. They try a lot to be unlike other stores and they do not have an interest in being too pushy with sales, which I love. It's a great job to have if you want to gain managerial experience while also being in school. Another thing I've loved is the feeling that you get to communicate with corporate frequently. We had visits from the Vice President of the company, the regionals, and of course district managers. I felt as though people in the company knew my name and that's lovely. I have enjoyed my 2.5 years with the company! (the pay is also quite competitive for the retail environment)

    Cons

It's retail so there are times when it is very slow or frustrating because you need to make sales goals. Sunglass Hut is the biggest competitor and at times, I felt as though corporate made poor decisions business-wise that affected us at the store level. There's a big focus on Safilo-manufactured sunglasses, as that is the parent company, and there were times when it was hard to push those brands over others.

    Advice to Management

Corporate - Be more competitive! The mentality that Solstice is a 'boutique company' isn't effective and in this day in age where online shopping is so prevalent, Solstice needs to be more competitive. Effective PR and Advertising strategies need to be implemented in order to compete with other stores and markets. So many people don't know what Solstice is and that's a problem because it's a lovely store and company.

Store management - be realistic with goals. Strive for the best but don't let it affect your management style if you don't reach a goal. It only makes your employees frustrated and disinterested. Stay positive !

    Pros

Autonomy to run your business. My DM is amazing. They actually care about their employees. Good pay. Employees are 100% empowered to take care of any customer issue. No customer complaints because we don't let it get that far. Personal time is valued. Flexible scheduling. Great employees. Great product. Fun environment.

    Cons

Takes a long time to get product replenished. Too much paperwork at the store level, a lot of duplication that is not necessary. Time would be better spent on the floor selling. Can get a bit boring during slow times, but that true with any retail operation.

    Advice to Management

Continue focusing on your keeping your people happy. Happy People produce more.

    Pros

Very lenient with your scheduling and educative. They will help you, they teach really well and are there to support you.

    Cons

The pay is not the best, but better than competition. They should add more incentive if one was to beat the goal.

    Advice to Management

They need to train better, also managers should put incentives for employees.

    Pros

The company sets a high standard for it's employees, which I feel is a great learning experience. My manager was always accommodating to my life outside of work. They never pushed me to stay longer or work on days I needed to focus on school or other obligations. My coworkers were great as well. The environment was just great all around.

    Cons

The goals were a little unrealistic considering it was not a high traffic store. My manager always understood that we will be having bad days but the higher ups weren't all that understanding. There tends to be a lot of micro managing.

    Advice to Management

Understand that there will be bad days as well as the good.
