    excellent learning experience

High Performance Relief Operator (Former Employee)
    Trenton, MI

ProsPay was excellent, benefits were really great and the company was pretty flexible with work home life. Management was supportive in work situations and out side of work situations as well.

ConsYou work a very hard swing shift, long hours and lots of overtime...the place is unionized which is positive but Solutia is very smart and know loopholes around union contract policies.

Advice to Senior ManagementI would suggest to pay close attention to workforce during downtime, a lot can be accomplished during that time. Also bring back the Trenton, MI plant because A. we need jobs and B. the green energy boom is hitting here in Michigan so the photovoltaic product would bring profit and the shipping cost issue would pay for itself.

I have learned how to overcome many obstacles in the face of adversity.

    Operator (Current Employee)
    Anniston, AL

ProsThe work schedule is very accommodating for young working families. Solutia also provides doors for people that want to pursue next level business opportunities for the future. Solutia is a very solid company to work for in today's job market.

ConsThe number one downside at my Solutia job site is that there are to many management - employee blood relationships, which causes management to make counter productive and unequal business decisions based on feelings rather than facts. This at many times creates an unsafe and hostile atmosphere on the job site between employees and some members of management.

Advice to Senior ManagementI wise man once said that true favoritism is earned not by favor but fitness (MLK JR.), in saying this I believe that each employee should be looked at by the content of their whole character plus their ability to perform a job safely with a high set of quality standards during the quantity of work hours permitted, not merely by just getting the job done with a quantity not quality job mentality.

    satisfied

    Warehouse (Current Employee)
    Anniston, AL

Prosfamily type atmosphere with great potential

Constoo much favoritsm......not all pull their weight......too many family members...you are expected to give 110 percent above and beyond......but the upper management are not quick to say thanks or good job., unless you are one of the chosen few.........some can get away with whatever and whenever........when hiring, seek out advice on potential employees and put an end to the good ole boy network

Advice to Senior ManagementTreat all equal and fairly......reward good performance......communication is a two way street....upper management should look at you, not down at you

Everyone seems to be working 3 jobs at once!

    Director (Former Employee)
    Saint Louis, MO

ProsPassionate people about the products and their jobs. Lost of opportunity for global work. Pay is at or above market when they want you.

ConsLong hours, and huge reduction if workforce means everyone is working 3 jobs at once. People are not given a chance to succeed. HR does not compare to what exists in world class organizations.

Advice to Senior ManagementOffer some hope for the loyal people. A lot of good and loyal people just need to be given a chance to succeed and satisfaction will follow.

Current economic climate has changed many of the reasons Solutia was such a great place to work.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsSolutia compensates employees well. Friendly culture.

ConsIndustry is unstable. Benefits have been cut.

    Advice to Senior ManagementGood luck.

Used to be a great place to work.

    Engineer (Current Employee)
    Pontiac, MI

ProsDid not like the direction the company was going in. Was a mutual decision by both parties to part ways. Upper management often ignored what the lower level employees had to say. the arrogance in the way of doing business is a downfall.

ConsPromotions are hard to come by. Upper managements goals and lower employees goals are not consistent with each other. Need to improve relations with employees.

Advice to Senior ManagementListen and stop the arrogance. Make goals clear and concise.

    Beyond Expectations

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsFantastic working environment and colleagues.

ConsThere were too many "Iron fists". Even top management with over 25 years can be asked to leave.

Advice to Senior ManagementTwo way communication and be a great listener.

Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company
