Pros
Extremely generous salaries and benefits for what is expected of most positions.
Cons
Demand much of a few; demand next to nothing of many. Hierarchical, political environment.
Advice to Senior Management
Empower employees to do the jobs they are being paid to do.
Pros
Good benefits package; fair compensation; opportunity for rewards for work done well; family orientation, with flexibility toward needs of associates' home life.
Cons
Was hampered by a regulatory mis-step. Not sure how life at Solvay is after being eaten whole by Abbot Laboratories.
Advice to Senior Management
No advice.
Pros
OK work environment in Marietta HQ. Competent people at the VP level and below in Marietta. Atlanta area is very comfortable living environment. Cost of Living is low, relative to Solvay salaries.
Cons
Totally incompetent and Eurocentric leadership. Huge divide between the European and US approaches to clinical and regulatory development. Abbott is very likely to clean house by the end of 2010, and retain few Solvay R&D employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Stop giving employees "the mushroom treatment." Follow through on your stated operating policies. Stand up for the valid differences between EU and US clinical and regulatory development. Make sure that people are doing their jobs, and not exceeding their authority.
Pros
communication is SLOW about the tranisition to Abbott and how we will be affected
Cons
Slow communication; transparency in the US is good as it can be given the limited understanding of the concept by the European leaders.
Advice to Senior Management
The European leaders in the company could learn a lot from the US leaders
Pros
Respect for people. Recognition of performance - both socially and financially.
Continuous opportunity for professional growth with almost no external recruitment happening when people from the company can fulfill the gap.
Cons
Operations are not big enough to produce opportunities in all departmental areas.
Non core related areas such as finance, IT, HR lack career advancement options.
Advice to Senior Management
Keep on the good work, but provide more career options for non-core related positions (outside Sales & Marketing) to allow for employees to feel motivated - otherwise the talents will look somewhere else for their career advancement.
Pros
good spirit among the employees
Cons
slow organisation on stragegy decissions
Advice to Senior Management
take care of your people
Pros
Benefits and pay package is excellent
Cons
Will not be in existent after this year.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to change in some department as that's the reason it was bought.
Pros
Good Employer with wonderful benefits. 401K was tough to beat
Cons
Massive Layoffs over the last couple years. Let go their manufacturing facility
Advice to Senior Management
Communication is Key - Let your employees know what is going on.
