  2.

My experience at SONAE, was a positive one, I worked with two of their different companies and in diverse fields.

I worked at Sonae full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

This is a very customer orientated organization, so they promote a continuous learning in terms of customer relationships and ways to improve, pushing every employee to his or her limit. It is recognised with numerous prestigious awards for the categories of marketing and merchandising.

    Cons

Sometimes when the competition is none or very weak, one can get too comfortable and the growth is not always measured or translated in numbers, (profit) there must be a growth or rise in culture, philosophy and quality of service. This for me is the major problem at the moment and it has been so for a long time, lets see if the SONAE enterprise can overturn this adversity, it has but to look at its self for the answers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

It is a demanding company, but the salaries are good in spite the geographical position and the surrounding economic environment, plus, this is an organization that promotes those that work hard even at a lower level. So those in management or middle management positions can expect to rise steadily whilst developing and learning new skills. Also there are plans to expand various brands associated with SONAE, across the globe, thus providing interesting challenges.

  3.

Better than average at the time for a Portuguese company

Former Employee - IT Operations in Matosinhos, Oporto (Portugal)

I worked at Sonae full-time for more than 3 years

    Pros

Sonae used to offer better than average salary and benefits to mid-management upwards jobs, and the status of working in the largest economic group in Portugal was interesting. This is also a diverse group of companies and businesses, which offers diverse experiences to its employees.

    Cons

With the economic downturn of Portugal Sonae was also affected. The salaries, whilst still interesting, are no longer above the average levels once experienced.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rotate your mid to top managers to different businesses, thereby offering also a diversified range of experiences, enriching for anyone's resumé. At the moment, the IT people that I know are working there have done so in the same place for years.

Multinational and multicultural organization with a big presence in the world. Biggest employer in Portugal. Holding composed by several reputed companies.

    Cons
