    About Sonata

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsGood Place for freshers to start their career. First 3 -4 years will be good. Lot of learning opportunities

ConsThe processes to finish the compensation revision and implementation takes longer than normal time compared to other IT companies.

    Good company for freshers

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

    Pros1. Training
    2. On-site opportunities
    3. Reasonable salary

ConsDifficult to get into a good project

Advice to Senior ManagementIdentify good resources and provide on-site opportunities

A good place to start your career but not a place meant for growth

    Technical Consultant (Former Employee)

    ProsGood training program for graduates

Quick induction onto projects and limited bench time

Smaller teams, bigger responsibilities and plenty of learning opportunities especially for technical resources

A few good and promising managers that uphold the culture and ethics

ConsLimited # of projects; as a resource you take what you get

No uniform culture across the company; Appears like the Sr. Management on certain engagements builds their own culture which did show signs of bias

As an employee, lateral growth is limited. The primary focus is on service, which is good, but seems to be the only one. All round development or grooming to get to the next level are to be self-practiced

Advice to Senior ManagementPromote uniform culture among all members of the firm

    Small company, and poor mindset

    Consultant (Current Employee) Redmond, WA

ProsGet to learn a lot more as a fresher, as they do not have a bench, so everyone gets on a project ASAP.

ConsThere are very few projects in the pipeline, low salary, employee benefits are not adequate.

Advice to Senior Managementto grow the company, must think like a global corporation, not like a small company. Do not shy away from change, change is good for the company as a whole.

Good place to get your foot in the door with Microsoft but limited long term opportunities.

Service Manager (Former Employee) Redmond, WA

    ProsLittle management oversight.
    Work remotely often.
    Can demand above average compensation.
    Routinely get overpaid.
    Work is not that difficult.
subsidized medical/dental and 401k match possible.
Solid and very knowledgeable team backing you up in India.

ConsLittle communication or direction given from management on larger project.
As soon as MS pulls the contract you are out of a job.
Doesn't seem interested in your long term career grown or building you professionally.
Get the feeling they are playing games and using consultants/vendors/contracts as pawns in a larger scheme.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe up front with your employees. Tell them what is happening with the project that their paychecks are funded by. Give them a path or options to advance their careers under the same Sonata roof. The new CEO, Sanjay, is doing a good job in correcting the companies course.

    Sr. Management wake up!!

    Senior Systems Analyst (Current Employee)

ProsQuiet life and family like atmosphere

ConsNo opportunities for career advancement within the company
The atmosphere is more typical to that of a government company with a chalta hai kind of attitude. It really sucks.
There is absolutely no investment in external training and certifications to increase the skill levels of people.
Promotions are dependent on how well you know the seniors and ready to 'mask' them.
Quality is absolutely hopeless. Nobody cares a damn about process even though it is supposed to be a CMM Level 5 company. It is always compensated by not doing it at all. Quality is a big joke.
Sarlies- No need to even mention it

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease wake up!!!

Not a company to grow in

    Manager (Former Employee) Bangalore (India)

ProsFreedom to learn, exposure to multiple facets of a software business. If you want to learn no place like this. There some great people who are there and very passionate.

ConsHR , career development is non existent. Compensation is not transparent. Nepotism is a challenge with brown nosing being the preferred mode for promoting

Advice to Senior ManagementClean up the top management and the dead wood in the middle management. You have very large groups here who are basically in the retirement mode
