I have been working at Sonesta International Hotels part-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

I love working in hotels or secretary positions where I get to interact with others regardless the situation. Guest/customer satisfaction is what brings a smile to my face. I enjoy completing tasks and showing my skills because in the end, I feel that it will show my skills.

    Cons

I do come across those individuals where no matter what you do, there is no pleasing them. It is hard sometimes but all I concintrate on is staying calm, understanding, and doing everything I possibly can to satisfy the customer.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some advice I would give is to be more understanding and part of the team instead of acting only as a boss. The more involved yet still respected would be the perfect boss.

I have been working at Sonesta International Hotels full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

I have found that everyone really listens to each other, and tries to find ways to make improvements. Many really good people, both in corporate and in the hotels.

    Cons

A very high growth place right now, so it does require some flexibility.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep focusing on developing the people that work for you.

I have been working at Sonesta International Hotels full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Sonesta has always been known to be a great place to work. They believe in exceeding expectations and they value the internal guest (employee) as highly as they value the external guest. Benefits are great. Training opportunities are great.

    Cons

Sonesta has new ownership who are still trying to figure things out. There doesn't seem to be a real vision of where they are taking the organization. If there is a clear vision, it is not commonly shared with the employees, other than profitability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Provide a vision for where the organization is headed.

I have been working at Sonesta International Hotels

    Pros

Most of the agents are very friendly

    Cons

Management could be much better, not worth the pay for the amount of work being done, managers do not take into considerations of certain situations, managers need to be more of a friend towards employees, and more improvement for the hotel in general needs to be done.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Much better preparation, raise pay for front desk agents, listen to employee suggestions, be more friendly, and acknowledge great work being done.

I worked at Sonesta International Hotels

    Pros

Good work-life balance (I was an hourly employee though, over-time is not welcome). Learned a lot. Better vacation policy than some other hotels in the area.

    Cons

Low pay, a lot of stress due to customer service involvement. Not a lot of room to grow

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Pay more, develop career paths

I worked at Sonesta International Hotels (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Very busy hotel. You will definitely work your tail off here. But everyone chips in. Co-workers are awesome. They are a technology savvy hotel. I found the pay above average for the hotel industry.

    Cons

Very firm on work schedules. No real flexibility there. Also, I didn't see managers helping employees with career paths there. It wasn't often someone got promoted from within, very political.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promote from within. Institute a management training program.

    Pros

    - Interesting people in all departments
    - Interaction with corporate staff
    - Beautiful work environment

    Cons

    - Many international directors, no real chance for locals to advance
    - Outdated rooms and no clear schedule of update/renovation
    - No flexibility for many employees
    - Can be somewhat stifling
    - Crisis or not, salaries need to be fair.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Personal growth is important. Take a page out of Richard Branson's book...treat your employees as you'd want them to treat your customers.
