    Pros

Discount on food, 'opportunity' to skate around, lots of hours

    Cons

managers don't care, you ALWAYS have to be doing something or else you have to listen to crap from everyone working, managers use other carhops' opinion of you in order for you to move up even when its something as basic as training. I worked here for 2 months and stayed on training, even though I did drive through well and knew all the fountain stuff. Everyone believes that they have the right to tell you what to do, people yell at you and do not speak to you with respect, some managers are very unprofessional. Many people don't show up for their shifts. Even when there are no customers and everything is stocked up people complain about you doing nothing. To make a long list short, the constant disrespect that I dealt with while i worked here led to me walking out and quitting this place. Hopefully other sonics are better.

    Advice to Management

Get better management. Don't allow other carhops to disrespect the other employees. Don't allow jerks to become a manager. Don't allow managers to disrespect employees. No one who was hired as a skating carhop wants to 'train' on drive through for 2 months. But to be fair, there was only 1 manager who I felt was unfit to be a manager.

    Pros

Fun environment; great location; CEO is upfront and personable. The brand is innovative. They're willing to step out and make sure the employees are taken care of.

    Cons

The company has a philosophy of implement then test. They dive in head first and change direction midstream.

High turnover and the stigma of being a revolving door sticks with Sonic. One executive leader refuses to see the fault in their department. Would rather spin it than fix it.

    Advice to Management

Senior leadership should open their eyes to the recent turnover. That's not coincedental. Placing the blame on the employees that are leaving isn't addressing real issue of the lack of effective leadership in these departments. The actions of a few has caused and continuing to cause repercussions.

    Pros

Skating carhop is a unique role in the fast food industry and is much more enjoyable than flipping burgers and taking orders behind a counter.

Tips range from almost nothing to $70/day, but I (guys get smaller tips) averaged $3-5/hr in tip money

You get to learn all the best drink combinations without paying for them

It's always a good conversation starter in southern California when you say you worked at a sonic since few people have ever seen or eaten at one.

Generally flexible with hours and trading shifts.

    Cons

    The store was poorly run
    - Ownership valued system numbers over actual good service. This lead management to force employees to stress themselves out and routinely cut corners in many areas in order to get orders through the system faster.
    - The store was consistently understaffed - intentionally - in order to make labor numbers.
    - Closing procedures were consistently overlooked for the same reason.
    - Had a manager cuss out a 16-year-old girl. She cried and quit.
    - I could go on, but it started at the top and trickled down.

No benefits, no full time, no raises.
    - Employees working at sonic for 3 years will be paid the same as new hires. Maybe, MAYBE, a bit more if they were lucky enough to get a 25cent raise.
    - Supervisors get full time, but nobody else will get over 35 hours. Most will get 20ish

Service was bad and employees can't really do anything about it.
    - Employees can only work so fast and, with the intentional understaffing, customers line up faster than food can be prepared and served up with a smile.
    - There is not much that the carhop can do about it except get yelled at by angry moms who just ordered ice cream for their now-crying child.

    Pros

-Great tips in the summer. I would take home $50-$70 a night
    -Flexible for school schedules
-Patient with new employees...unless they don't like you
    -fast paced

    Cons

-Business during fall and winter months are non-existent
-Carhops get paid 2.30$ an hour plus tips. They say if you don't make the 7.25$ hourly quota, they'll pay you minimum wage. Didn't happen for me.
    -So much unnecessary drama
-If they don't like you, they're VERY good at weeding you out
-If you need to take off for school or if you call in sick, they throw a fit
-If you mess up as new employees do, they hold it against you
-Costumers are very rude. I once had a shake thrown at me.
-Many costumers don't know you can tip carhops, from what management told me at one point
-Promotion days are hell. All employees are expected to work on holidays because that's when promotion days are
-you go home smelling like a tater tot
    -Promotions don't happen

    Advice to Management

Humility will take you very far, pay your employees more. There are many single mothers working for you, I know because my sonic was full of them. They can't feed their children on 2.30$ an hour plus very few tips.
