    Pros

It's a small company so you know everyone.

    Cons

Even though it's a small company, there was a lot of politic. I noticed CIO person who was over 60 and yet tried to let go employees because he felt insecure about his own. Really bad when a senior person would do something like that.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The company had about 500 employees so it's too small to have a CIO. He might have been gone after the company was acquired by a private equity firm last year.

    I worked at SonicWALL

    Pros

Many colleagues are good people and good at their job. Decent work/life balance. A good place to work for beginner.

    Cons

Senior management needs to be more competent, especially in Marketing and Engineering.
Lack of professionalism, strategic and organizational changes are executed slowly and ineffectively
    No career growth

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Overall senior management needs to be more competent
Increase positive communication and recognition of employees
View people based on their contribution, not on how much they talk

Has potential, but short term thinking hurts this company

    I worked at SonicWALL

    Pros

Good people there trying their best to do their jobs. Most are professional and there are a few very talented folks there. Director level and below are a great group of people doing the best that they can with limited resources.

    Cons

Definitely a wall of separation from exec mgmt and the rest of the employees, not really open to suggestions, even though it is repeated often that they are in communications to employees. Emphasis on competition between organizations, not encouraging cooperation & collaboration. Very top heavy at VP level for that size company. Strategy seems very short term focus...lots of "fire drills"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Streamline upper management and create clearer lines of businesses. Encourage more cooperation and less competition.

Sonicwall is a perfect example of sales and marketing people designing products instead of engineers.

    Pros

Free Lunches, Free Dinners all designed to turn you into a fat employee too bloated to drive home.

    Cons

The products they make are terrible. After working there for over 2 years, I still was befuddled with how difficult it was to set up basic features on firewalls than on a Linux based firewall. The amount of internal politics was completely insane given the small size of the company.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Develop more technologies in house. Stop going shopping for terrible technologies ( CDP ? ) at the expense of not researching new innovations in house. There are smart people there , so give them the opportunity to explore new technologies. Don't just give lip service in regards to career development. Sonicwall, NEVER allows you to move into new projects. Your only option for advancement is to quit. The same goes for real raises. People are so pigeon holed with no possibility of developing their skills that almost everyone ( minus H1B visa indentured servants ) complains about wanting to go somewhere else.
