I have been working at Sonoco Products full-time

    Pros

Relaxed work environment as long as work completed, opportunities to move locations and divisions, exceptional compensation, supportive managers, great network.

    Cons

Certain locations aren't as appealing, if there's a need you will be expected to move for promotions which can be negative depending on your situation, the medical benefits aren't amazing but they're manageable.

    Advice to Management

Engage young employees more often to understand their needs and increase longevity

    Pros

*Stable company *Friendly employees *Competitive pay and benefits *Opportunities for advancement

    Cons

*Much distrust among employees with management and corporate leadership *Have witnessed some office drama and politics *In state of restructuring so a lot of confusion and no clear direction/identity. This also has veteran and existing employees nervous (possibly contributing to the office drama) *Large company so too much red tape at times to get something accomplished

    Advice to Management

Think about simplifying reporting structures. Too many different managers with different objectives/priorities causes conflict at the local locations. People matter. Make sure you take care of employees and not only pay attention to bottom line and metrics or you will lose good people. Should seriously consider updating some of the facilities. Those I have visited are outdated/drab looking (colors, design, lighting, flow, technology) and do not create a good first impression for customers.

I have been working at Sonoco Products full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Abundance of opportunities, a company that genuinely cares about me and my career. Priorities on safety and "doing the right thing". There are opportunities to speak with the top management directly, even to Jack Sanders. People are very helpful and always willing to impart knowledge and advice. Lots of opportunities to step out of your comfort zone and be challenged!

    Cons

I have no Cons at the moment.

    Advice to Management

    Great job!

    No opinion of CEO

I have been working at Sonoco Products full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Excellent compensation package, strong opportunity for advancement, ability to change core role within firm (i.e. Operations, Finance/Accounting, Sales, etc.).

    Cons

Work-life balance; frequent relocation required for advancement.

    Advice to Management

Work-life balance is a legitimate benefit for a career -- it is necessary that this fact is recognized, even in Operations (!). Hiring high-quality, well-educated, successful candidates with the intention of placing them on rotating, 60-70+/hr per week shifts is simply not a viable option with regard to retaining young talent and building bench strength, rather, it encourages/prompts turnover that would otherwise not exist at such a stable company.

I have been working at Sonoco Products full-time (Less than a year)

    Pros

-Sonoco is a company that supports their employees. -In the management trainee program they invest interest in your learning and preparing you for success. -At corporate headquarters everyone is ultra friendly and supporting. -The pay for management trainees is really good the down side is that you get paid once a month.

    Cons

-The downside to the management trainee program is that you do not know where the company/division is going to send you send too. I think it would be helpful if management trainees were told what city and state they will be moving too as soon as they begin the program.

    Advice to Management

Keep treating people the way that you do!
