I have been working at Sonora Quest Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

-Pay - some of the highest pay in the valley for MLS and MLTs and possibly the country (when you also factor in the low cost of living in Phoenix). Pay reaches even higher if you work off shifts, nights, weekends, and/or holidays. -Work environment, depending on which hospital you work at (SQL run all the labs at the Banner Hospitals in the valley) is very friendly and relaxed. -Career ladder: if you are interested in progressing through the company they do a good job of giving you leadership projects to build yourself up to get promoted if you are interested in leadership. If you aren't interested they give yearly performance-based raises if you just want to be a bench tech that's cool too.

    Cons

-Occasionally short-staffed. -Hiring process is a little cumbersome. -As a generalist at some of the smaller hospitals you might not get to do much variety of assays. In fact you won't get to do almost any Microbiology if that is what you like. It all gets plated and shipped off to the central lab at Good Sam to be done. So if you really like Micro, you need to apply to work at Good Sam or Papago.

I have been working at Sonora Quest Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Managers are being trained every day to improve our interaction with them. Yearly bonuses, flexible time away, and a variety of jobs available whether you like solitude, or a team environment. Most importantly, you really do have access to educational dollars and there are dedicated staff that are here to help you progress through your programs.

    Cons

Parking at Papago- not enough shaded spaces. Some of the positions are entry level and not exactly "fun", but that's the nature of the work.

    Advice to Management

Really let the people know, especially in entry level positions, what they're going to experience, and find a way to keep them engaged as they increase their experience so they aren't lost to other companies.

I have been working at Sonora Quest Laboratories full-time (More than 10 years)

    Pros

Great insurance and pto benefits. Team Lead personnel are great.

    Cons

Phlebotomists do not earn a living wage. I can't afford a decent apartment on my own at $13.50 per hour, and I make too much to qualify for housing subsidies. No help with CE credits for nationally (ASCP) certified PBT's. No overtime.

    Advice to Management

The Phlebotomists are the first impression the patient has of this company. Why not increase pay to prevent losing the good ones to Theranos which starts at $18.00 and gives overtime.

    Pros

Flexibility, Benefits, and that's about it.

    Cons

This is a very dishonest company that doesn't know how to communicate with their employees very well. They'll lie to you at first to gain your trust but when you start to question them, they'll treat you like dirt. They would even terminate people without any sort of reason.

    Advice to Management

Learn to communicate with your employees more and treat them more with respect. Otherwise, you will have continuously high turnovers.

I worked at Sonora Quest Laboratories full-time (More than a year)

    Pros

Excellent outpatient clinical reference laboratory in terms of quality of testing and turnaround time.

    Cons

They are very obviously discriminatory against persons of alternate sexual orientation, as well as males with primary psychiatric diagnoses. Interestingly enough, females with mental health conditions are welcomed and not delineated from the entire workforce population; only males. Fear based bias - clear and compelling stigma. An embarrassment to modern corporations, and in particular to the clinical laboratory sciences.

    Advice to Management

This type of behavior is egregious, despicable, reprehensible, and even unconscionable. To discriminate against an employee caring for a quadriplegic with end-stage ALS simply because of on the job observable fatigue, rather than working with them, says mountains about their character. How can LSA even be considered one of the Top 25 Companies to work for in the State of Arizona?

    Pros

Friendly and open atmosphere. Good Values and work culture. Excellent CEO and top management. Lots of opportunities and room for growth.

    Cons

May not be as progressive/forward thinking as some may desire.

    Advice to Management

Continue to keep the attitude of striving to make sure all employees are learning and growing.
