I worked at Sony Electronics full-time (more than 8 years)

    Pros

Sony known as one of the best global company consists of top notch innovative ideas and designs; Sony Electronics Inc, is a sales and marketing company of US region to help contribute the products to consumers. Under such environment, I was able to work with people with passion and who loved Sony throughout their life. Many smart people who liked Sony and the whole offices were mixed with many different backgrounds that made the company exciting.

    Cons

Unfortunately, in past 5 years (more or less), newly joined sales, marketing and branding people had no understanding on Sony products and philosophy of the company. Many of them carried MBAs but had no brilliant ideas to achieve the sales goals, lacking of innovative thoughts and simply interested in making their portfolio stands out for next career. Many of these people relied in outsourcing group/ third parties who also have poor performance in output. Terrible Branding group who also messed up the brand of the company and failed to gain the trust among the consumers. Recent years of low level performance of these marketer/sales representative and branding people created terrible reputation among CE industries and market.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Deputy/CEO from Japan who just recently came to US and leads SEL with his partner (US CEO) should be fired immediately. He is the guy who actually messed up the whole business in Sony; nobody want to follow him and many left for this reason. Management team should also understand that due to their lack of innovative marketing ideas, the sales are obviously sliding down the hill. What Sony Electronics currently have now is secondary workforce with poor performance and lack of talent in marketing.

    Pros

Everything. It is a great company and I love it. Just fantastic, wonderful. It's everything you could ask for. It's excellent all around and I just live working here and doing my job. It's great I love it.

    Cons

There are none, apart from the deadlines and the usual stuff that happens at any workplace it is challenging but then again most jobs are.

    Pros

Despite economy, benefits were good when compared to other companies in the same sector.

    Cons

Too much politics and square thinking creates frustration among employees that want to do a job and help the company to recover.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop driving personal agendas and politics, truly walk the talk and be mindful of your employees.

I worked at Sony Electronics full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The pay and work environment were good. The people were friendly, loyal to Sony and dedicated to working hard.

    Cons

The senior management team is absolutely clueless on how to bounce back from one dramatic setback after another. Samsung, LG, Apple, Beats and more are eating what used to be Sony's lunch and nobody knows what to do to stop the trend. Japanese management remains clueless to what resonates in the American market.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Focus on putting the quality back into the products. Too many bad product launches with defects have turned former loyal Sony customers away. Time to shake up the top US and Japanese management teams. The same old people won't be able breathe new life into a company that is on it's last legs in the US.

    Pros

Loved the products, loved the experience. Build strong customer relationships and you will be very successful. Some employees at home office were amazing and very helpful whenever you needed there help or had an idea.

    Cons

Two things bothered me the most while working at Sony, upper management would be the first. General manager of my location was the worst, very smart and had potential but never utiluzed their abilities. No disciplinary actions for those who violated company policies on a regular basis, played favorites among workers, went against your decisions to make you look bad in front of guests, bent over backwards for the customer but not once for your employees. Very disengaged when tried to build a team moral. No type of transparency, not even amongst fellow managers. No leadership qualities at all. Very hard to take serious. And the second would be the employees they hired, no one wanted to work, just there to collect a check and socialize. No customer service or sales experience. Hurt the location and the conpany in a whole. Being that our bonus was based on a collaborative effort it would upset me to see no one cared quarter after quarter. Employees were hired to fit the trends and not to sale. Big mistake

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Rethink the current approach. Its not working

I worked at Sony Electronics full-time (more than a year)

    Pros

Sony in San Diego (Rancho Bernardo) has some good perks- beautiful gym that is open early and closes late and it's only $20 a month, a cafeteria that can make literally anything you want (kinda pricey and not really subsidized) and the hours are very manageable (typical 9-5). Bonus' and pay was pretty good too.

    Cons

The creative services team/Sony Direct is really unorganized. Think twice before accepting a job in this group. A lot of people had been there for 15+ years and only know the sony way of things. They laid off more than half the team earlier this year and it seems like turn over is getting worse and worse. People are leaving left and right. Sony Electronics is doing VERY poorly and they can NEVER make their numbers. The group I worked with was a bunch of people who had very little previous experience that was related to their jobs and they all learned on the job at Sony, which as I mentioned above is not the best way of learning how to do your job! It's very corporate too, not a lot of "fun" things done for team building.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Hire people with more experience.

    Pros

Abiity to work with passionate people

    Cons

It feels as though you're on a sinking ship where people are undervalued and are commonly stepped on and taken advantage of in the name of "The great SONY god"! almost laughable... This is why the company is sinking... without fist treating your people well bad things follow... corporate Karma!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Recognize your products come from people and when you have unhappy people you'll have unhappy everything
