Pros
We had some of the most enthusiastic people working together towards a common goal. Many good processes, checks and balances in place. There was a real desire to produce innovative and high quality products. Some products were really great
Cons
Products not always designed with the best quality, often because there was insufficient time or resources (or both) to address all of the issues prior to launch. Processes not always followed or were made to be impossible to follow with the time and personnel available. Measurements of project management was often hihgly focused on launch date and little else. Project Managers were not held to a project from cradle to grave, causing poor follow through on issues. Money wasted on ridiculous marketing but made limited attempts for the North American market. Decision to eliminate the design unit at RTP was political and spoke volumes as to how important that market really is to upper management. This may not be the final blow for that market, but extreme attention must be given to address all customer issues in order to keep the customers they have and impress new customers. A lot of good experience was lost in the last downsizing; many of those people would've gladly worked together to improve, but the leadership was too willing to take improper risks with the products to get them launched on time. Sometimes this worked, but sometimes it didn't.
Advice to Senior Management
Need to reallly focus on customer wants and needs instead of dismissing them. SW still needs strong improvement and quality needs to be made the top priority in deed, not just desire. Time to market has to include adequate resouces and time to address quality for good products to be released. Leadership needs to really focus on allowing equal input from the different teams around the globe and not just dismiss that input from certain parts of the planet.
Pros
Dinamic with a tremendous respec for its employees which is also translated into Career Development. Fast paced with multi challenges. True Global Organization. Freedom to create and develop your work delivering results.
Cons
Sometimes very Swedish minded which may not fit into all different cultures. Working with an extremelly tigh headcount wich overloads too much employees who can burn out easily. Some
personal preferencesrelated to professionals may overrule performance and real talents.
Advice to Senior Management
Stick to the Global Company mindset and listen more accurately to the markets.
Pros
Flexible, Family, Innovation, Global, Adapting
Cons
Sweden, Central, Legacy, Old platforms, Long decissions
Advice to Senior Management
Make company a stock company
Pros
It is global and multi-cultural company which can provide you the most advanced knowledge and experience. It is always precious to have an experience working in a foreign company in China.
Cons
Flexible working time. Free working environment. A nice working atmosphere. People like to help each other within Sony Ericsson. A little above middle level payment.
Advice to Senior Management
Improve the principle how to promote people. Issue some good and powerful policies to keep talented employee working within Sony Ericsson.
Pros
Very good benefits, and lot's of freedom in how to do your work. Room for initiatives and a good culture of openness and sharing. Very competent employees and good managers.
Cons
With a lot of consensus seeking the process often take too long. US market needs are not acted upon, and often not fully understood by global. After the downsizing the company has been struggling to find it's way back, because some of the structural problems have yet to be resolved.
Advice to Senior Management
The company is at least partially on the right track back, after cutting some projects and getting a better focus. But the software development capacity and lead times are still not where they need to be.
Pros
- Great products and industrial design
Cons
- Long hours and not enough company events
Advice to Senior Management
- Focus on Android
