I worked at Sony Pictures Entertainment

    Pros

Good environment to work. Great campus in Culver City with great ammenities.

    Cons

Most jobs are offerred through connections. Resulting employees with culture and values deep rooted in entertainment industry. Can be frustrating for people joining with new and fresh ideas. Turn over is high resulting in changes in programs and business discontiniuty. This business of Sony Corp is not technologically advanced as other Sony business unit and work can get chaotic. Hurry up and wait seems to be the norm of the day

I have been working at Sony Pictures Entertainment full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

Great opportunities to take control of your own learning, and be creative in your role, and add to your skill set. The perks are huge- free gym membership, great benefits, great 401K, and big emphasis on work-life balance. Never had an issue with taking sick days or vacation, and personally I love the people I work with.

    Cons

Lack of innovation, lots of talk about growth and sharing information with no action to back it up, nervous work force since Bain came into the picture, and complete lack of opportunity for career growth. All hirings for management position are done externally with no consideration for internal candidates. These external hires then make unilateral decisions about new directions products/people/processes should be taking.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Start rewarding hard work within the company and don't bad-mouth people that had no choice but to accept other job offers. Look at the big picture and figure out how to allow all departments to work together without fear and without back-stabbing. Stop making decisions based on tomorrow, start making decisions based on next year or 3 years from now.

I worked at Sony Pictures Entertainment full-time (more than an year)

    Pros

    Collegial environment, work/life balance, people

    Cons

No vision or leadership at the top levels and very risk averse and short time financial focused. No long term growth strategy, does not invest in its people, lots of dead weight but also does not recognize and foster talent.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward high performers, cut losses on low performers who bring down company.

    Pros

They were one of the best companies and were moving my up the ladder quickly until I had to move back home to Chicago to marry

    Cons

None - even thought they cut overtime back, they gave it to me because I was on a special project for the Sony Movie Channel. I did a great job.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Their values should be studied by other companies as they train, never discriminate and give you all the benefits of a great company

I worked at Sony Pictures Entertainment part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Never know you who you'll run into. The grounds are immaculate, and the cafeteria is consistently spot on. Especially for breakfast. Diverse set of production companies and corporate departments on-site. Parking is painless. The common area is a great place to gather for lunch and meet people from disparate backgrounds, unified under the Sony banner.

    Cons

    Is located in Los Angeles.
The rates for the on-site health center are excessive.
The pay is pretty standard. Not much room for growth OUTSIDE of the company. Once you're in, you may be stuck, stuttered, shuttered and shuttled up or down the corporate ladder.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Keep on keepin' on.

I have been working at Sony Pictures Entertainment as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

Great company to work for as an intern. The internship program is fantastic and it makes you curious about the global tax industry.

    Cons

The projects seemed to be dull at times. The pay is well but it was not up there with the big 4 or mid tier firms.
