I worked at Sony Pictures Entertainment full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

I loved everything about working here. The people were smart, the campus in Culver City was gorgeous and the work was interesting.

    Cons

Highly political atmosphere, no real respect for "hard" business skills. Very difficult to get into creative areas (aka the profit centers) once you're pegged as a suit.

I worked at Sony Pictures Entertainment full-time for more than 5 years

    Pros

There is a wealth of opportunity and a decent amount of interaction between different divisions. There are a lot of perks including screenings, discounts on Sony electronics and good benefits.

    Cons

It's easy to be a victim of corporate shifts;downsizing and there are a lot of jobs without opportunity for growth,

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make it easier for people to move between divisions of the companies and stop letting outside consultants dictate decisions.

I have been working at Sony Pictures Entertainment full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Great location, salaries and benefits. People are generally good. Opportunities do exist for advancement.

    Cons

Aside from senior management, not willing to pay for talent. HR/P&O exhibits inconsistent performance and provides terrible level of service to business units. Business lacks a coherent vision, has 0 franchises, and product is uniformly abysmal in quality and value.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get a vision, plan for the future, dump your CEOs.

I have been working at Sony Pictures Entertainment full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

There was more of an entrepreneurial spirit when I was there, with more collaboration and less division between departments and responsibilities than at other studios.

    Cons

Reactive instead of proactive to changing market conditions; great ideas but little or no follow-through; job cuts made in batches that don't make sense instead of thoughtful refining of processes and reallocating manpower

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reinstate intermediary levels for employee advancement (i.e., Senior Manager, Associate Director) throughout company, not just in select divisions

I have been working at Sony Pictures Entertainment full-time for more than 10 years

    Pros

Excitement of the lot. Being close to production. And to new technology.
Talent can be interesting if nothing else.

    Cons

An ambiance of over paid old-timers who have stayed, and new, energetic lesser paid staff. But Company is doing a good job of cleaning up the obnoxious, diva, at times destructive hanger-on's, especially in legal and marketing. Just that the soul of the place is in angst, and projects never sure these days.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep developing the younger, more dedicated teams across the departments, and communicate central goals to all. The place can still be saved. Gotta remember advantages, especially with competitive technology and some dedicated, talented staff who are great to work with across departments. Keep motivating with clear goal setting and rewards!

I worked at Sony Pictures Entertainment

    Pros

Very stable. HR invests in the 'little things' -- for example, there's a nice gym and weekly happy hours on the lot.

    Cons

Very political culture, bordering on passive aggressive.
