    Pros

The environment was friendly and casual. You could be yourself--piercings, tattoos, colored hair. The health and medical benefits were outstanding. Schedule was quite relaxed, so a good work/life balance was possible.

    Cons

Things moved slowly. Even though there was no dress code, in certain business units there was the feeling you were judged by appearance. Gossip and politics weren't out of control, but they were definitely there.

    Advice to Management

Identify high potentials and help them grow -- and faster. Learn how to reallocate valuable employees rather than sever them. take some risks. Incubate innovative new ideas. Have clear job paths, and encourage people to move up and along.

    Pros

Growing company, lots of users, high impact work, love my coworkers. It's a product that is changing the world.

    Cons

Not an easy job, changes impact millions of users which can sometimes be very stressful.

    Advice to Management

Be more "hands-on" with the employees. Provide team members with a more realistic vision of potential career opportunities.

    Pros

Fun Job, casual work environment, occasional game swag, regular raises for loyal temps, easy-going management.

    Cons

It takes several years of hard work and complete dedication to even be considered for any kind of promotion in the QA dept, work is really inconsistent, sometimes you are "off-title" for months before they ask you back and then you have to work tons and tons of tons of overtime. Not a job for those who need stability and room for growth.

    Advice to Management

Offer more perks to temp employees if you cant at least give them consistent hours or room for promotion. Access to the campus recreation facilities would be nice since its hard to stay in shape while sitting at a desk for 10+ hrs a day every day.

    Pros

    Talented, caring people.
Wide array of technical and non-technical roles.
    Global organization.
Exciting industry (video games and entertainment), with exciting products.
Fair salaries, bonus, and even severance.
Strong market share after launching PlayStation 4.

    Cons

Heavily contracting staff in World Wide Studios (WWS), many teams are now half their original size.
Executive leadership is not always strategic, and decisions are made slowly.
Accountability is poorly maintained in most organizations, and often is culturally set by specific leaders throughout the various groups.
Many folks are coasting (which impacts high-potentials/strong performers and team success potential); most global teams are silo'd, and employees are less of a priority/focus and poorly celebrated (besides shallow perks like free and discounted games).

    Pros

Discount on games and console hardware. That's it.

    Cons

Lack of competency at C level and manager level. Departments are silos with managers protecting their own turfs at the expense of the whole company. Company culture is one of "I don't know what you are doing and I don't care as long as my project goes forward." Best talents leave and incompetents stay behind and walk the halls like dinosaurs.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with candidates at the job interviews. Don't paint a rosy picture just to get people in the door.

For perms, 20% of staff, awesome. for the rest. discarded as easily as gained.

    Pros

New big titles free, like Uncharted 3, fun atmosphere most of the time. Cheap soda machine and free K-cup coffee.

    Cons

1 perm tester for every 15+ temps. Harsh hiring transition process that often translates more into who you know and likes you as opposed to how well you work. Often, but not always, have supervisors who show up late and clearly were never good at even your job. Work is fluctuating highly, often only 6 months of the year of high work load, rest of the year maybe half the available temps are used.

    Advice to Management

Better review overtime listings for permanents on weekends, as often there were as many or more perms then temps and they often had 2-3 hour of work a day between them. Only 1 would put in a half days work, others would just be there to collect OT. In San Diego well below desired income, most employees lived with parents or a large number of room mates.

    Pros

You get the chance to contribute to AAA Titles
Overall, the culture is a fun one and people get along.
Animation supervisors seem to distribute work in a pretty fair way.

    Cons

There is consistent overtime for artists.
They tend to lay people off when projects are finished.
There is overtime pay, but no profit sharing or bonuses for contractors.

    Advice to Management

Almost all artists are contractors. I feel like you could redesign this to give a greater percentage of them the peace of mind of a staff position.

    Pros

Friendly, welcoming, fun people. Great atmosphere and a nice location in sunny San Diego. The San Diego campus works with some great companies and on some really cool IPs.

    Cons

75% of the jobs are contract positions, with little to no job security once the project ends, and it doesn't look like that is changing any time soon. The people at the top seem out of touch with everyone else. Since most positions are contract, there is not much room for growth of career.

    Advice to Management

Consider bringing on more full-timers rather than so many contract positions.

    Pros

Good co-workers, responsive support staff, thorough benefits, and no shortage of resources at one's disposal (provided management can be convinced of an idea's validity).

    Cons

Sporadic work hours, inconsistent passion / motivation levels amongst employees, a general sense of money being much more important than corporate reputation or product quality

    Advice to Management

Stop letting passionate workers leave for other companies. It seemed to be happening a lot whilst employed there.
