Pros
Great management and very competent employees.
Cons
There are no staff level employees.
Advice to Senior Management
Great job and able to meet deadlines timely and efficiently.
Pros
Sony has a some of the best studios to offer the inspiring artist or producer. many chances are given to those they can wait.
Cons
Downside being the lack of promotions to move on and make something of myself. maybe a smaller based company would be better
Advice to Senior Management
promote better, let the smaller guys show you what they can do with themselves. maybe they have ideas and people that can make it a better place
Pros
-Great Benefits
-Cool technology
-Nice office in NYC
-Nice people
Cons
-Growth in Minimal
-Very little middle management positions
Advice to Senior Management
-Entry-level doesn't necessarily mean administrative assistant
Pros
Generally, very good support of employees. Sony does a generally good job of making employees feel valued. Benefits, salaries, support policies, etc, seem better than average in the industry. Also, it is quite multi-cultural, which tends to protect against group-think. Advancement might not be as fast as in, say, a startup, but you can definitely do quite well here. In sum, Sony is a place you can have a solid career in.
Cons
It's just so big, so diverse, so all-over-the-place. So there are a lot of challenges trying to get the left hand and the right hand to work well together, or even know what they are doing. This is especially true because most big decisions and funding come from Tokyo (HQ), so US employees sometimes aren't clear on what the corporate direction, and what is the basis for some decisions.
Advice to Senior Management
Generally, management seems to be doing a decent job. I would improve and emphasize customer service. Sony likes to emphasize that it is a premium brand building premium products. Premium customer service and customer relationship, after the product has been sold, would be huge help in setting Sony apart in a very competitive market.
Pros
The headquarters is in San Diego. The people are generally friendly. No one is really held accountable for performance. Culture is biased towards the Japanese "job-for-life" thing.
Cons
You won't get anything done. The pay is substandard. The company is losing money hand over fist, so no raises and limited bonuses. Leadership is awful. Many long-tenured employees - retired on the job long ago.
Advice to Senior Management
Fire the legacy management team. Infuse a lot of new blood at all levels. Shed unprofitable lines of business. Treat employees as a strategic asset. Become cost competitive in the market place. Embrace and implement best-practices.
Pros
The benefits and perks are excellent. It's a very relaxed and flexible work environment.
Cons
Ultimately, everything is controlled by Tokyo, and so many things are totally out of your hands, or even your boss' hands.
Advice to Senior Management
Sony is way too disjointed. Everything is segmented into too many different teams across different cities, states, and even countries. Sony needs to centralize its operations.
