    I worked at Sopheon

    Pros

    Outstanding technical talent.
    Stellar IT team.
    Great culture.
    Good product.

    Cons

Often spend money in the wrong places.
Flip-flop priorities can result in customer disappointment.
    HR is lacking.
Management teams around the world have conflicting agendas.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Employees are always jabbering about how a big customer drop or failure will trigger a panic. Enter the small-business market with a "lite" product for stable revenue stream from a large number of sources. The "lite" product could be the main revenue source, a step to ubiquitous status, then charge a LOT more for the giant fish that don't conform and are getting away for next to nothing.

I have been working at Sopheon

    Pros

Small company environment. Nice facilities. Very intelligent and professional employees. Great product.

    Cons

Company-wide bonus depends on sales department. Poor morale. Upper management doesn't seem to care about the well-being of employees. Very negative and stressful work environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Learn from other companies whose employees love to go to work and would recommend their company to collegues. What do these companies do to be successful all around?

  3.

5 years of looking good on paper but preferring the status quo

I worked at Sopheon full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

    - Flexible work schedule.
    - Casual dress code.
    - Joke around with coworkers in fun, collaborative atmosphere without cubicles.
    - Technical people who are dedicated to the product.
    - Management is, at least, willing to listen.
    - Good first / second job just to get some experience under your belt

    Cons

    - 2+ years in, the company is still not doing Scrum the right way.
    - It took 4 years to expand the QA team to more than one person, and then they wonder why quality has decreased.
    - Not enough developers to do the amount of work load coming in, especially since the goal is to absorb the technical inabilities of other departments.
    - Employees who have been with the company for 10+ years are proponents of the status quo because they do not have experience working for other software companies.
    - Teams are "empowered" to make decisions until they collide with management (or the 10+ year employees).
    - Consistently performing shortcuts instead of spending extra time to do things the right way.
    - Development managers always agree with upper management.
    - If you care too much, you can get sucked into working 50-70 hours a week in order to get something finished in a timely fashion, since other team members may work at a slower pace.
    - Product development does not focus on the pain points of customers, but rather which gimmicky new features can be marketed. Because of this, the development team is always putting out the next customer fire.
    - Too much time is focused on one-offs instead of making a product that is easily customizable.
    - Whenever something goes wrong, which is usually because of management decisions, the excuse of "learning from our mistakes" constantly gets thrown around.
    - Bonuses for all are determined by the effectiveness of sales teams.

    Pros

Open to employee ideas and input for company growth, great business that is constantly expanding, open and collaborative company culture, opportunities for growth and success on all levels!

    Cons

No significant cons- great time to join this company- number of employees at MN headquarters is smaller than other Sopheon locations, could be a Pro or Con depending on the person

    I worked at Sopheon

    Pros

If you needed some information on how something works, or how best to go about doing something, you could ask anyone who to talk to and they would tell you. That person would be more than happy to give you any detail you needed to complete the job if they had the info. If not, they could probably point you to the right person.

    Cons

Keeping a job here is very much dependent on what the sales organization does. If the sales don't come in, people may be let go.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Flying the senior management to Amsterdam to ring the opening bell at Euronext is not a way to save money.

    I worked at Sopheon

    Pros

Focus on sharing day to day information.
    Bright and interesting co-workers.
Generally good management with open door style.

    Cons

Sopheon does not appear to have a long term company or product plan.
Bonuses are based on company wide actions. This means that a last minute decision can eliminate the bonus, even after a year of solid team performance.
