    Pros

Smart people, OK Benefits, Room for growth, learned a lot, clear communication from c-level team, marketing team was talented and smart.

    Cons

Worked many hours with not many work from home opportunities, no 401k match, company is no near many restaurants and things to do on lunch break

    Advice to Management

Consider offering some more work from home opportunities for employees. Continue to be clear and direct about expectations and the growth of the company

I worked at SoundBite Communications (More than 3 years)

    Pros

The people there are awesome. Made a lot of friends mainly because there is a "we are all in this together" attitude.

    Cons

Pay stinks. You work tons of overtime on fire-drill after fire-drill (its a regular occurrence) but there is no compensation for it. Raises are minimal. The sales people that some of us had to work with are complete jerks. They demand immediate work on their clients because they are the ones making the buck off of them. We never got any profit sharing when we did all the work.

    Advice to Management

Incentive, pay raises, overtime pay!!! I left because I worked 60 hours a week and was treated like a slave. Went to a company that paid better.

    Pros

Great employees, decent culture and fairly flexible work environment. Big focus on customer satisfaction, which has enabled it to acquire and maintain some key customers. Quarterly meetings led by CEO help keep employees informed.

    Cons

Company strategy tends to change quite a bit and there is limited investment in areas that will contribute to long term growth. Lots of activity and not a lot of desire to prioritize and focus on areas that will yield the best return. Limited opportunities for growth and hard working employees are often taken for granted. Most decisions are made by 3 or 4 people in the company.

    Advice to Management

There are a lot of smart and talented people at the company. Don't forget to involve others as the C's may not always have all the answers or knowledge. Would've been great to see follow through on more of the projects rather than abandoning so early and moving on to the next thing.

    Pros

Good people, decent benefits, feedback is taken seriously.

    Cons

Getting any new types of technology involved is difficult. Conflicting ideas on where to move products.

    Advice to Management

Let developers choose their tools. Choose the best tool for the job, just because something has been around a while and was expensive doesn't mean it should be the solution.

    Mixed Organization Without a Compass

I worked at SoundBite Communications full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

Technically challenging and fairly progressive thinking company. Not overly political, not a huge amount of room for advancement either. The company doesn't mind lateral moves within the org, but there is not much opportunity to work upward, part of which is a limitation of the size of the org. As such, most folks come in for a few yrs and use it as a springboard to go elsewhere, which depending on where you are at in your own career, isn't necessarily a bad thing for your own selfish purposes.

    Cons

The organization continues to be lost on driving future products to obtain a solid footing on revenue. The foundation is technology that was innovative 7-10yrs ago, with mixed results on building out from here. They have missed the boat on a number of naturally potential offerings that would have complimented the existing investments (outbound dialing, why not lock in customers with inbound, further advancement into a solid commit on other mediums), seems lost of constantly chasing the latest dollar to try and show positive cash flow for investors instead of a sound, long term vision. If they could get their act together on really executing on sales front, it would be a terrific org (been struggling for yrs here, so its tough to be optimistic at this point). With a continued struggle to move from a startup mentality to improved maturity, hours and personal life balance can be hectic.

    Advice to Management

There are a few questionable folks who like to consider themselves "C-Level Executives" where this does not necessarily translate into positive contributions back to the organization with respect to their own responsibilities, particularly when looking at direction of business and long term development from the business perspective. From the technical perspective, the cultural DNA is strong on technical with a vein from the top down which a smart team can use as a catalyst to build out from.

    Pros

Excellent flex time, great support from management, excellent communication throughout the company. Extremely talented development staff managed by professionals with a no-nonsense 'hands on' approach. EVERYBODY works to attain the goals of the moment. Low on frills, but a very good, upbeat culture over all.

    Cons

Very fast pace, multiple versions under development continuously, can be a bit hectic at times. Efforts underway to implement Agile/Scrum, but day-to-day remains more of a traditional waterfall approach.

    Advice to Management

    Carry on!

    Disapproves of CEO

    Pros

Get to work on some challenging problems. You can improve your problem solving skills. The engineers there are generally smart, even some of the managers and VP.

    Cons

-Disconnected Departments -Micromanagement by managers and VPs -Unwilling to look into new technology -Company is publicly losing money every quarter; more stress on employees -Preferential treatment for certain employees who in good graces with the VP -Bad work environment - you can sense the tension as soon as you walk in -Very old code base - fun trying to debug issues. -No appreciation -Management insults and degrades you on occasion -Company is headed in wrong direction. -This company has no idea about modern technology. This not a place to work if you have any type of creativity at all. VP dictates everything. This company is publicly in trouble. They are losing money every quarter and despairingly trying to make the company profitable.

    Advice to Management

This more for the board of directors. Is Jim Milton really worth 500k per year? He hasn't really made the company profitable. Is the current management team directors and VP any good towards making the company profitable. Maybe a large management shakeup is needed. Get some fresh young blood in and out with the old.

    Pros

Great engineering team, loaded with pros - you can learn a lot working together with them. Good benefits, good company culture. The office has a gym and a cafeteria in the same building. Basketball/volleyball courts right outside.

    Cons

Work does get hectic sometimes, as deadlines approach, and these deadlines tend to be fairly strict and directly connected to the revenue. pretty much, when your big customers want features, you have to deliver.

    Advice to Management

As hard as it is to focus on promoting the growth of individual employees' careers, doing more in that regard would make people feel valued and make them want to stay.
