Great opportunity for those that want a feel of teaching and get some experience to become a full time teacher.

    Substitute Teacher (Current Employee)
    Hampton, VA

ProsWorking with children is a blessing. The office and teaching staff are always nice and helpful. System is easy to use to pick up assignments. Teachers always leave a lesson plan to help the day go smoothly. I love the elementary age children because I enjoyed doing story time with them and seeing their reactions to the story.
The training was very helpful and informative.

ConsSometimes your assignment can get canceled. Which can be inconvenient to you say if you have another job and you told them you were working and all of a sudden your assignment gets canceled. During the summer the it is very slow assignments are very few. As of yet I only was able to accept one summer school assignment. Say if that is your primary income that could be bad for you.

Great learning experience working with students of all ages.

    Substitute Teacher (Current Employee)

ProsYou can work wherever the company offers their services. Flexibility to work when you want to. Can pick places to work online. A lot of places to work. Decent benefits if you need them. They handle all of your paper work and they tell you step-by-step how to become a certified substitute teacher.

ConsCompensation varies depending on the town you work in. Can only work during the school year and not any summer programs a school may offer. Process to become a certified substitute teacher takes a few weeks

ProsFlexible work schedule full/half day teaching
Location, Location, Location close or far away school locations

    ConsFavoritism,
    Demanding Job Expectations
    Less Pay

Advice to Senior ManagementProvide an substitute teaching opportunity for candidates without teaching experience if they want to enter the profession. Give a worker a chance to redeem themselves instead of coming down on them.

    Unprofessional and Tacky Employer

    Substitute Teacher (Former Employee)

ProsNONE because this company needs Progress.

ConsThis company is very young and hence very underdeveloped. They have taken over school districts in NJ and PA with no vision or sense of professionalism. They DO NOT provide adequate training, DO NOT VALUE their employees, Fire very easily ( If a teacher does not like you they can simply send a report stating "Poor class management" and if a Sub get three of those they are FIRED.) There is no process of appeal, they have no program to reward and recognize good substitute, they have really Nasty Customer Service agents and they will ruin your life and tract record/employment prospects in education. If you get fired by them then you can Never work in NJ or PA as a teacher in the districts that they have taken over. Which is almost every district in the States.

Advice to Senior ManagementYou need to value your employees and better investigate report. Don't just listen to one side of the story. The way you treat people will go against your company and it will not Last.

    Unorganizaed

    Substitute Teacher (Current Employee)

ProsConstant jobs available. You able to choose the schools you'd like to work at and keep an eye on available upcoming full time positions.

ConsLong wait times, lack of internal communication, incorrect pay amounts, unnecessary middle man. It is easier to work directly with districts. I never had a problem working with districts directly, but with Source4Teachers the process of substituting becomes more complicated and tedious.

    Substitute Teacher

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsThey will send send you out to many school districts, you will get much exposure, everyday is a challenge, and every assignment is different.

ConsThey have monopolized substitute teaching at practically every school. Before every school secretary hand selected the substitutes for the assignment that most fitted. They do not mention that you will be evaluated at each and every assignment and that these evaluations are based on statements that are OPINIONS (How can you evaluate a substitute based upon a one day assignment). They do not tell you that the school may be located in a high crime zone and that the school may have gun detectors. The administrators at these schools, that S4T sends you to, make unjust acquisitions that can damage your work history. S4T operates unfairly. Its all about money.

    A process for the process

    Anonymous Employee (Current Employee)

ProsThis not a company that supports or thrives on micro-management.

ConsThere are so many processes they conflict with one another, easily resulting in less than satisfactory performance.

Advice to Senior ManagementConsult with each employee to fine tune multiple processes and coach them to perform to specific standards.

an educational staffing company, which provides an opportunity to work on a daily basis throughout several counties.

    Substitute Teacher (Current Employee)
    Cherry Hill, NJ

ProsIf you are out of work and have an associates or a teaching degree you can be a substitute.

ConsThis is not steady employment. You fill in for teachers that are absent. Each school district has it's own pay rate which is not hourly but is daily.
