    Pros

Flexible schedule, about to get jobs at preferred locations

    Cons

not always being able to get jobs when available

    Advice to Management

to the subs complaining about the jobs, I frequent some schools and you also have to get to know the teachers, they actually watch how you conduct yourself with the classes you are in. as far as classroom monitoring, you can not let the class run you or appear to be a pushover.
To those that are teaching certified, if you have a complaint about the substitute pay, just go be a regular teacher.

    Pros

The online system links you to many school districts and convineitnly notifies you of assignment postings.

    Cons

It was very difficult to work on a regular schedule and get assignments ahead of time. The districts switching to source4teachers resulted in an 11% pay cut.

    Advice to Management

It would be good to give substitutes a more personal experience with the districts, as they could be future employers for the subs.

    Pros

There is a lot of flexibility with your work schedule. The pay is O.K., but not enough for the stress involved. No two days are alike.

    Cons

Lack of sufficient support from management. Lack of enough training. Many times you don't know what you'll face when you arrive in the classroom. One problem with classroom management, even noise level, and the school can eliminate you.

    Advice to Management

I would advise more training for applicants, especially those who lack at least 1 year of public school experience. The employee or substitute is blamed for everything that may go wrong in the classroom, which can be unfair.

    Pros

Easy system of finding and accepting assignments.

Wide ranged list of schools and districts to work for.

List of full time teaching jobs.

    Cons

Robo call is highly annoying. Doesn't always let you opt out of calls for the day.

Pay rates suck, but I'm not sure if that's the district or Source

Certain people in HR are rude for no reason and always in your business if you need to call out. One HR rep in particular just hates her job and always has a bad attitude.

    Advice to Management

Be up front about the necessary costs and procedures it takes to be sub certified or just a paraprofessional. Also, shouldn't have to sit through a whole orientation for substitute teachers if I just want to be a paraprofessional.

    Pros

whenever you want, you don't have to be committed to any assignments

    Cons

when they lose a contract with a district, they keep you in the dark and just take the assignments away. I guess they think you got enough money to pay for rent, they are inconsiderate. Have a second job as a back up, working with them, you can lose

    Advice to Management

inform your employees when you are about to lose a contract, don't let them be hearing rumors and you finally lose a contract that's when you inform the employees.... Horrible

    Pros

You have opportunities to get your "foot in the door" to multiple school districts. Their schedule is flexible.

    Cons

Teachers with four year degrees and teaching certifications should not be paid the same as substitute teachers with 60 credits in different disciplines or majors especially if they are working with special education children. If you don't accept a long term job they offer (even if its a two hour drive and there is one closer, but that job is not the one they wanted you to fill), they put you on a "black" list and you no longer get emails or notifications of long term positions.

    Advice to Management

Focus on the needs of your staff as well as your own placement needs. Compensate according to education and experience level not on one level for all substitute teachers. You need to have 60 college credits to become a "substitute teacher." Those 60 credits could be in business, marketing, or any other major. Are those subs "the same" as those with staff with bachelor and masters degrees in education or even special education? Really???

    Pros

You can pick your schedule. You meet new people. In the younger grades you actually teach.

    Cons

Pay is hit or miss. Sometimes jobs do not appear ahead of time and you have to scramble to the job location when it does.

    Advice to Management

Add more description to the job. I was at a job for special education. Special education is a huge range of what a class could be. I walk into the room and it is a behavioral room and I was NOT prepared.
