I have been working at South African Airways full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

The only pro about this company is the benefits. If you are management you get better than average airline benefits. Business Class flights at 0 fare.

    Cons

The company has the worst culture. High level corruption, politics and red tape kills prospects for any real career opportunity. You have got to be better at playing politics than you really need to be at what you are supposed to be doing. No performance based incentives or recognition - but there is a performance program but it links to nothing - just to keep face.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Stop talking. Start doing.

    Cons

Staff all to ready to strike at the drop of a hat.
Difficult to deal with Head Office from the outstations.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get over the politics. Focus on business priorities.

I have been working at South African Airways

    Pros

While once a superb global airline, SAA has become a typical 3rd world "free for all" parastatal institution with little regard for its passengers and employees.

    Cons

Management incompetence, management insensitivity, job 'hugging', a total lack of equitable personnel policies - even 17 years after a democratic South Africa, have played into the hands of its competitors.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

SAA used to be a company worth working for just for the prestige of its name amongst international travellers - those same travellers now avoid SAA as far as possible - why?

    Pros

Traveling percks and the lias a fair culture, of the orgsnisation.

    Cons

limited growth for cabin crew and difficulties in transfering to differrent departments within the organisation

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

allow us the same opportunities as the other departments, we all share the same vision for the organisation and are hungry for personal growth and greater contribution to other sphers of the company. SAA is a great company to work for, allow us to contribute beyoung our current descriptions
