My experience was challenging but worthwhile.

Teacher (Current Employee) South Bend, IN

ProsThe staff and administration at the school level are excellent to work with. Everyone pitches in to help in some very challenging situations.

ConsThe student body has several social issues. When a staff works with a parent it frequently becomes apparent that the issues come from household culture. District level administration is wary to follow their progressive discipline polices.

Advice to Senior ManagementFollowing your student body discipline policies, it will create a better learning environment for your students and attract more education focused students to your district.

    Can be a roller coaster

Teacher (Current Employee) South Bend, IN

ProsThere seems to be many opportunites for training. The district tries to provide additional earning opportunities for staff like taking advantage of extracurricular activites and private grants,

ConsMany programs and iniatives create busy work and large paper work loads. Many are not effective or not given enough time to take hold. Senior administration is not effective in producing policies that create positive educational environments.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake a strong classroom level look on how to support staff in building positive education environments,

    Helpful Information

Assistant (Current Employee) South Bend, IN

ProsBecause most of the people who work for this school corporation are family oriented, therefore it is easy to attain a good work/life balance. If you are a full time employee, there is a great health care plan.

ConsAs is the case in education, most employees are underpaid. In recent years, the school corporation has undergone many changes and is still making changes that can affect the quality of work. Many schools are on academic probation, and this can cause a heightened stress level.

Advice to Senior ManagementBe prepared to ride the rollercoaster ride that can come along with working at a public school. Many changes are being made, and unfortunately, many more need to be made to ensure a quality education for children in this community

One of the best volunteer gigs I have done.

ProsThe best part of working for the SBCSC is the students and teachers at South Bend James Whitcomb Riley High School.

ConsWhen there is low team spirit. Also those times the team does not work together and the Wildcat does not fire up the team to victory.
