I worked at South Georgia Medical Center (Less than a year)

    Pros

The hospital is willing to teach you everything you need to know about a position. The training is AMAZING!!! If you are in college they will work with your schedule.

    Cons

They are always in need of help! You will constantly get pulled to other floors because they need help all over the hospital.

    Advice to Management

Keep up the good work ! It is amazing on how much you show the staff that you care about them.

I worked at South Georgia Medical Center full-time (More than 3 years)

    Pros

Those that truly do care are great to work with

    Cons

Upper levels talk about values but they don't live by them. There are great people within the organization but most are overworked, underpaid and miserable. Morale is horrible. "Everyone is replaceable" mindset. Policies aren't consistent, no accountability, and a lot of things are swept under the rug.

    Advice to Management

Live by the values you preach!

    Pros

Training Benefits Paid Time off Family first attitude Comparable pay (LPNs)

    Cons

Leadership isn't chosen based on experience or expertise Residents are not chosen based on care that can be given. Residents are often brought to facility that is unequipped to service their needs.

    Advice to Management

Choose leaders and management based on experience - many are lazy and ineffective.

I have been working at South Georgia Medical Center full-time (More than 5 years)

    Pros

I have gained a lot of experience and skills to allow me to move forward in my nursing career.

    Cons

Unsafe staffing ratios, little support from administrators, and a whole lot of micromanaging

    Advice to Management

Invest in your employees, not in owning every other hospital in the area.

    Pros

Majority of people are great to work with. Pretty flexible with time off. Right in the middle of town so the commute is short. The hospital is growing and expanding creating more jobs and availability of care to more people. Tuition reimbursement and scholarships.

    Cons

Staff are under appreciated. You can go 30 min to another hospital and get paid WAY more even just starting out. High turn over rate. Most people stay for 1-2 years for experience or to work off their scholarship and leave.

    Advice to Management

Appreciate your staff and show it...they are the ones providing patient care. Happy staff will give better care and patients will have a better experience.
