I have been working at Southcoast Health System full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Fast paced work environment, progressive expansion of services. Mangement is open to ideas and will provide the resources to assist in meeting goals. Southcoast is one of the best places to be employed.

    Cons

A few growing pains, can be overwhelming to some. High expectations, and long hours to achieve system goals. At the end the of the day Southcoast is a rewarding place to work.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Several major initiatives running simultaneously can drain staff. Sometimes a pause between projects to look back and reflect, celebrate and reward for major accomplishments maybe the golden carrot for employee satisfaction and engagement.

    Cons

Major organizational changes underway, rapid expansion in owned physician groups, significant IT failings, likelihood of merger with other organizations.

I worked at Southcoast Health System as an intern (less than an year)

    Pros

The Director I worked for was extremely supportive, loved the work I did for her, and wanted to hire me as her full-time dedicated assistant.

    Cons

Budget constraints kept her from hiring me, or anyone, for the full-time Director Secretary's position she was promised when she accepted her position.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't make promises you do not intend to keep.

    Pros

Its a great company to work for.

    Cons

The management needs to learn how to communicate correctly to employees and not embarrass them in front of people when its not necessary.

I have been working at Southcoast Health System full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Working with some of the loveliest, hardest working people I've ever known. Benefits are great. Close to home. Ability to apply for transfer within the organization. Despite the cons, overall would recommend to a friend, if advancement and growth opportunities are not as important as working close to home or health benefits.

    Cons

Lean staff = years and years of being overworked and underpaid with no light at the end of the tunnel. Although pay is on target for the area, low in terms of the jobs that each person does. Lots of expansion within senior level leadership, with less levels of opportunity down below means there is a lot of turnover due to people leaving the organization for advancement opportunities. Business culture is still very "old school" in terms of politics.

I worked at Southcoast Health System

    Pros

The health system offers benefits to its part time employees and a decent hourly wage with shift differentials.

    Cons

The hospital was always short on EVERYTHING from patient supplies to office supplies, and they were always short staffed which made for a very hectic environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend money where it counts: on patient care.
