I worked at Southeast Missouri State University part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    - The schedule was made around my class schedule
    - Co-workers were very willing to cover morning and afternoon shifts
    - Friendly atmosphere, everyone got along

    Cons

    - Co-workers were not as willing to cover evening shifts (understandable)
    - Having to manage people that came in on guest passes that weren't always friendly

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure to weed out the employees that you know don't pull their part. It can be easy to just keep them there but they can bring the whole team down.

I have been working at Southeast Missouri State University

    Pros

    Friendly co-workers
Offers a lot of extra activities
    Everyday is something new
    Gives back to the community

    Cons

Health Insurance is below par. You have to meet a high deductible before it kicks in
My department is more like a "Boys Club"
No procedures are in writing so department can make them up as they want

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put procedures in writing i.e. A/P & Purchasing seem to make up rules depending on how they feel. Put exactly what they need to process a transaction in writing and stick to it.

I have been working at Southeast Missouri State University

    Pros

Beautiful campus (River Campus) and very nice community

    Cons

The town is only 50,000 people and it is very conservative.

  8. Great job as a student

I worked at Southeast Missouri State University part-time (more than a year)

    Pros

While I can't speak for other positions, working in the IT Department was a great learning experience. I was given the freedom to expand my talents so long as the task at hand was completed, and the atmosphere was great. Management always worked with people as much as possible.

    Cons

As a student, you are limited to 20 hours or less per week, excluding rare bouts of overtime. Inter-department communication can be lacking at times, but still friendly. No opportunity for growth as a student.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

If possible, allow students to work more hours, as 20 hours a week at the student wage is barely enough for cost of living. Allow student workers to have more responsibilities if they demonstrate the ability for them.

I worked at Southeast Missouri State University part-time (less than a year)

    Pros

    - On campus so for any student it is very close distance by car or even walking
    - Virtually no conflict on the job
    - Some positions even allow time to work on homework if not busy

    Cons

    - Pay could definitely be better but that is the case for most jobs
    - If you get put on the same shift as someone that is not a hard worker it can be frustrating feeling you are stuck with all the work
