    SCE Call Center

    Anonymous (Current Employee)

ProsSCE call center is a good entry level position to move forward in the company.

ConsThe Standards of Performance metrics are challenging.

Advice to Senior ManagementNo advice to management at this time.

    Engineer II (Current Employee)
    Alhambra, CA

ProsCompensation, benefits and perks are awesome. Job stability.

ConsMy first impression is that the work environment is like how it is working in the defense industry. Processes are slow. The culture is old-fashioned.

Advice to Senior ManagementPlease do not get stuck using old technology. Jump on the bandwagon to upgrade to newest technology company-wide (i.e. Old phones to VoIP, mobile timesheet submittal, etc.). Moreover, with a lot of SCE employees retiring, management can brainstorm and come up with new exciting ways how the company can be more attractive to younger generation as they will be the future leaders of the company (i.e. streamline process in knowledge transfers, career advancement, assignment rotation, panel meetings when leaders share their successes and steps taken to move up the company ladder, more attractive company benefits - increase vacation days, achievement awards, etc.)

Overall, it was ok to work there as long as your supervisor liked you, if not it was hell.

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

    ProsBenefits, good pay, helping people.

ConsNo support for management or supervisors, if your supervisor disliked you, you where held back from possible advancement.

No place to start, or stay

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsStill some very good people. But every day more of them are leaving. Junior staff seem to be able to get very good jobs after a few years at SCE, , , at another firm.

Cons"Do less with less" is the new company slogan. If you want to do great, expansive work, this is not the place.

Advice to Senior ManagementRetire? Stop treating people like furniture.

    Run for Your Life!

    Customer Service Representative (Former Employee)
    Rancho Cucamonga, CA

ProsPay is ok. The health care benefits are excellent.

ConsWorst experience of my life. Call center reps are broken, fragmented, stressed out vessels of what used to be a person. Many are on antidepressants, and anti-anxiety meds, daily drinkers or just plain out pill popping just to numb the tiny piece of their soul that is still alive, otherwise they would cry uncontrollably throughout the day, or experience spontaneous rage, and be unable to function. There is no union so management runs amuck without fear of recourse. Attendance records, discipline files, and notes are often manipulated by management behind the scenes in order to promote or terminate. As an at will employer they don't owe anyone any kind of explanation for their actions or decisions and nearly all terminations will be written up as Gross Misconduct. Don't expect to ever get out of the call center. It is not a foot in the door or a stepping stone to something better, you will most likely be washing down Xanax with vodka to cope with the fact that as a college graduate you are now literally leashed to your desk, being monitored on your word usage, tone of your voice, offering non relevant services to callers, how long your calls are on the line with you, noting the account, how many times you went to the restroom during work time, how long you took each time you went to the restroom during work time, if you got stuck on a call before a break, and any other form of micromanaging that you would never even think of. Do your self and your family a favor, don't take a job in the call center.

Advice to Senior ManagementOpen Your eyes! Albert Guzman and Robin Wright are driving this department to crap. Over the last 2 years nearly a dozen veteran reps have left, some with over 20 years of service. That is not normal turn over! Your call center reps are the Face of SCE. They are the Heart of SCE's public facade. If the call center reps aren't happy, then customers aren't happy. My advice is simple, Treat EVERYONE the way that You would want to be treated.

Great Company - Not so great economy

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

ProsLong Term Job Security - Transparent Management - Compensation - Benefits - Company really cares about Personal Health & Safety

ConsSlow moving company with above average aged workforce, company currently going through lots of organization changes for the past 2 years which has led to low moral.

The company takes pride in being more 125 years old, but that is not always good.

    TSP III (Current Employee)
    San Clemente, CA

ProsThere are a lot of great people to work with. Great chances to learn a lot. Some employees spend nearly more time learning than actually do their work.

ConsUse and abuse. This is one of the least caring environments I have worked at. Management leeks sensitive information about employees for their entertainment. Self-growth is far more important than ethic for most management.
The company closed a plant rather than admitting their mistake and really fixing it.

Advice to Senior ManagementStop spending so much in trying to picture a good image for the company, and actually start caring about the customer and employees. Success will come at a much lower price without such a heavy turnover. You can't be successful with so much frustration in your workforce.

Controlled Growth, talent means nothing here!

    Senior Manager (Current Employee)

ProsAs the competitive pressures on the industry mounts the company is becoming ground zero for major business transformations. Opportunities to really drive change and improve business operations are all around.

ConsWhile the Executive Leadership is seeking to drive change the overall employee base is very change resistant as most haven't worked anywhere else but there and only know and believe in the Edison way. In addition, this leads to a very challenging and political work environment that rewards those that do the right thing for their respective political groups versus what's right for the company.

Advice to Senior ManagementRemove the "dead wood"and eliminate the tolerance for those that willingly work counter to the company's stated values!

Horrible, cutthroat work environment - abysmal leadership

    Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
    Rosemead, CA

ProsVery high salaries. Adequate work-life balance.

ConsPoorly executed mass lay-offs. Management eliminated employees they did not like (ignoring the fact they were high performers) and kept the synchophants (ignoring that they are poor performers).

Advice to Senior ManagementGet rid of incompetent managers who rule by fear and install managers who are competent and caring. That would go a long way towards preventing the next workplace shooting, instead of installing even more metal detectors and placing more armed guards everywhere.

    A political company

    Nuclear Security Officer (Former Employee)
    San Clemente, CA

ProsExcellent pay and benefits! An experience I will never forget as long as I live.

ConsI observed that promotions are based on sex, religion, race, buddy system and an individuals sexual preferences I.E. L.B.G.T.. It was not uncommon for you to sit for hours in a booth no bigger than a broom closet. It was hard to get restroom breaks or meal breaks. You could expect long hours of boredom and anxiety.

Advice to Senior ManagementSenior management was blind to what mid - level management was doing. Due to incompetence and a design flaw, the station was eventually shut down.
