I have been working at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Benefits are okay. Time off is standard. Leadership is extremely poor.

    Cons

Very little time to train, due to under staffing. Training never completed to best of ability.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Promotions are for those who have not done the job, and "fit in"!! Not usually qualified.

I have been working at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Nice people to work with. Cafeteria food prices are low, and food is not that bad, you can deduct the food out of your paycheck.

    Cons

Low pay, not good health benefits, little time off. No work from home. Little organizational standards, they just "wing" things and it made me very nervous (administrative level). People are placed in positions that they should not be in, no experience. No performance raise; you do not have to do anything to get a raise. Personal growth opportunities do not exist. "Perception is everything". Departments have a hard time seeing the big picture.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Higher the right people, get better benefits, offer performance raises, allow some people to work home (depending on position).

I have been working at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Salary and benefits acceptable, except horrible health insurance.

    Cons

Many in management and administration are dishonest and unethical. If you try to communicate to them, they do not listen and do not want to hear what you have to say. If you try to speak out on concerning issues you will suffer consequences as their only aim is to sustain the status quo, even if there is dysfunction or hostile management tactics. Upper management keeps middle managers in place, even though they are inept to say the least.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Cut the dead wood off the tree in management and administration. They are costing you good employees who leave due to the incompetence and hostile behavior.

I worked at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center part-time (more than an year)

    Pros

The staff was so nice, I can admit that. But that is the only nice thing I can say about this hospital.

    Cons

The people just were not organized causing patients stress. They would lose things and leave out important information on discharge papers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Put ALL information on discharge papers.
    Keep all patient belongings together.
Stay organized and keep up consistency with patients and patient care.

    Pros

Not a good fit if you have a creative mind and need a little more freedom in your job. They tend to be really rigid with the rules.

    Cons

really great pay and benefits and the job itself was not too hard.

I worked at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center

    Pros

Compensation was good and there was no problem getting time off.

    Cons

Over privileged cardiologists who are legends in their own mind. Spoiled sonographers who put their own needs above patient care. Very cliquey lab to work in. Very little ideological diversity.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Value employees and do not look at them as expenses. Treat employees consistently.

    Pros

depending on the manager or supervisor it might be ok to take vacations or sick days. Or you might have to "schedule your sick days!!!!!"

    Cons

lower pay than other area hospitals based on experience. They rather hire from outside than promote within!! even if the employee is dedicated and deserving!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

it's time to evaluate the managers and directors that have been there for years and years. They do not lead by example, they get away with alot.

    Management Problems

Former Employee - Social Worker in Nashua, NH

I worked at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center

    Pros

SNHMC has some wonderful employees that are very focused on quality patient care. Some of the physicians employed by the Center are among the best I have ever known. There is a company paid pension if you have enough longevity.

    Cons

Upper management has supported incompetent middle managers for decades. Some managers are seriously disorganized, violate hospital policies, engaged in social relationships with supervisees and play favorites. Communication is poor. Training is minimal. There are significant inequities in salaries among people doing the same jobs, despite being more experienced and qualified.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Favoritism erodes employee morale. Compensation for some positions needs to be brought up to par with the duties involved. Incompetent managers who have been at the center of numerous complaints by doctors, supervisees, and other managers over an extended period of time need to be terminated or demoted. In some cases, unit employees should be interviewed in a manner that makes them feel safe and protected to get all the facts out.

I have been working at Southern New Hampshire Medical Center

    Pros

Small community hospital just over the border of new hampshire in close proximity to Boston. Friendy people and divesrse population of people to work with. Majority of doctors are very good at what they do and dedicated. Good benefits and potential for growth depending on what your field of expertise is.

    Cons

Currently ; its outpatient services are growing so fast, that the growth outpaces the organizations efforts to prioritize what it needs to focus on first and money is not always well spent. As a result, employees wages and cost of living raises have suffered in recent years. Salary adjustments are lagging behind.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

When they send out employees surveys, they really need to address the issues that are at hand. It seems at times, that no one wants to be responsible for addressing the problem, especially when the problem is management.
