I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

Your coworkers, benefits, allowed to be yourself, job security, growth happening. Been here for 19 years and I still enjoy my job. Hope to have many more to come.

    Cons

U work very hard when you are working. There is no slacking off but that's a good thing. Sometimes it's hard for upper management to listen to what's going on in the field but still love it here

    I worked at Southwest Airlines

    Pros

Flight benefits, not being micromanaged as a flight attendant. I.e. No direct management looking over your shoulder. Easier to shine w your natural personality, and w increased seniority you get nice control over your schedule

    Cons

Not being recognized by the company for your special people skills, ie with the elderly or children

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Peer review promotes cattiness and back stabbing. Union needs more consistency w skill of reps

A lot of what you read on Glassdoor is glowing hype by the company

I have been working at Southwest Airlines full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

If you are senior - you've been through a lot of contracts- so the money is good- but not great- lines to fly- are terrible.

    Cons

Where do I begin? A lot of what you read on Glassdoor is company hype -as SW has an ENTIRE room devoted to scanning social media to flood the world with their cult kool aid. If they deem this review "negative"- they'll post 5 happy glowing reviews- at least 5 a week saying how FANTASTIC it is to work there. A joke. Having worked there for 28 years, I can tell you - senior people are NOT feeling the kumbaya, yet the comapany continues to flood the world with its "oh we're all so happy here' nonsense. We are not. Pilots-flight attendants, ramp, operations and perhaps the mechanics - all have contracts up and we all haven't had a raise in a long time, while the company reaps record earnings- and top management has given themselves mega (millions) bonuses. The CEO is clueless about life out on the line and has said, his ONLY concern is the return to the shareholders- so forget rank and file. It's quite obvious they he feels about us and it shows.
The operation has lots of issues and management doesn't get it or want to hear it, resulting for major frustration for front line employees. The OTP is tanking -Advice? listen to the front line employees- they do it ALL and many have excellent insight - have the courage to listen to both the positive ~ and the negative.- and make the needed changes.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get out- fly the line and WATCH the operation- stop with the kool aid nonsense....that does NOT increase morale. Solving problems on the line does. Back up your employees and empower them to make decisions to get the operation back on time. All top management KNOWS the morale is tanking and they are totally clueless about what to do. This is very very obvious to rank and file. Wake up guys- we know it- we can see it.

    Pros

You can be yourself...have FUN, enjoy what you do, move around to different departments and cities, and not really worry about layoffs...the Company is stable. They promote from within and offer advancement options to everyone.

    Cons

Contracts & hours can be long - especially during weather issues. Can be hard to discover all the benefits and opportunities when you are brand new - but once you get the hang of it - the world is the possibility!!! Ask lots of questions!!! Read everything!!! Be informed!!!

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Ask more Employee's their opinions...should be more of a 2-way street.

    Pros

Positive work environment created by a healthy working relationship between management and labor. Outstanding benefits and great job security.

    Cons

Preserving the 'corporate culture' is becoming more and more difficult as we become larger and the company hierarchy expands.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Negotiate contracts on time or we too will become like the 'legacy' airlines who experience tempestuous dealings with their labor groups

    Pros

Your co workers, southwest truly does have remarkable people who work there. Everyone in my department is like extended family.

    Cons

reservations has become more about quantity vs. quality its all about how many calls you can complete and selling products to customers vs helping them with what their problem is.
Also reservations is the MOST micro managed department ever. someone is always over your shoulder babysitting you like you are a little kid.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

This is not pre school we are all capable adults who know how to do our job. Please treat me as such
