I have been working at Southwest Florida College part-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Courses are only 10 weeks so get a break more frequently than a school that has 16 week courses. Most of the people who work there are friendly. I've had some very promising students.

    Cons

Very little chance for advancement to full time and since new limit how many hours an adjunct can teach, dollar amount that can be made is now extremely limited as well.

Since the school has low standards for who can attend, often get students who are not college material and who do not do well. However, the teachers are expected to get these students through. Other students who do care about good grades are discouraged because of how these bad students are coddled. Subsequently, a lot of the good students leave.

Additionally, many students don't like the name change and what it implies: a regular college versus a technical school. The school is letting current students keep Southwest Florida College to be on their degrees when they graduate which is good but I predict enrollment will go down for future.

Management is slow to handle problems/concerns. Requests for improvements are ignored.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Raise the standards of qualifications for attending -- a better caliber of student will result in better results and attract more students. If at all possible, let the college go back to having their original name.

    Pros

Decent pay and good hours. Will work on Saturday's although there are no appointments set.

    Cons

Small company and too much micro managing, discrimination, upper management lacking training and education, insufficient new hire training and orientation. They are constantly in the "culture change" stage, yet the culture has not changed. High turnover as well.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Get organized and incorporate performance reviews/feedback of all employees (even upper management).

    Pros

People are mostly nice, students are better than many schools

    Cons

1000 words are not enough to say what illegal and shady things are going on there. School has been sold, but everyone that should know is still in unaware and secrecy is the norm. They say one thing, do another. Nepotism is rampant. Lies are daily. They chose to turn their head to what needs to be addressed and rather sweep it under the rug. Nothing would be good enough unless you become a "yes man"

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The new company that is taking over needs to get rid of all of the senior management and start over. They only want what is good for them. That is not the way to run a company, unless they want to run it into the ground. That might not be a bad idea.

    Pros

Clean campus, nice facility, most staff is friendly, student's are great

    Cons

limited opportunity for advancement within, lacks integrity and commitment to quality employee's, non- existent training which is a major issue that stems down from corporate, communication is inconsistent, the company's outlook is flawed. Current issues are not being addressed they are being bandaged.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Create a policy and training program and implement it now. Make yourself accountable for the success and failure for the campus.

    Pros

    Possibly better than unemployment...debatable
    Free parking

    Cons

    No work/life balance
    Nepotism
    Constantly changing rules/management
    VERY HIGH staff/ faculty turnover
    Students are running the show
Most teachers don't have required credentials
You don't even get your own desk or office

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Why bother? None of the good people stayed. Have you had any trouble finding reputable teachers who are willing to work there? Enough said.

    Pros

Caring, student centered environment that is moving in the right direction. Academics and administration work well together and make decisions based on what will be best for the students and the right business decision.

    Cons

Recently gone through some tough structural and administrative changes, but on the right track for positive growth.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Continue to develop staff and work towards unity across all campus to the philosophy of the new leadership.

I have been working at Southwest Florida College

    Pros

It's proximity, if you are not ready to leave the Tampa Bay area especially because of family connections and responsibility.

    Cons

The quality of students, their understanding of College education as a High school baby sitting institution and the needs for Management to dance to students' tune in order to maintain enrollment and profits.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Admission requirements needs to be higher than it is. Allied Health fields cannot afford to enroll every Tom, Dick and Harry except they are ready to apply themselves to learning.

I worked at Southwest Florida College

    Pros

It is a small company where you will know everyone pretty quickly. If you have ADD then the admissions department is good, since most everyone in there has ADD as well.

    Cons

Mananegment does not care what you did in the past, but only what you are doing now. I will admit that they let me go, but it was without warnign and no reason for it. They will fire anyone and everyone without advance notice. Women are promoted htere quicker then men since the majority of the men in power are sexist against men. The will hold you down and not try and promote anyone if they can get by with it.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

The top brass need to realize that if they treaated the sale speople bette rhten they would not have to worry about the constant turnover.
