Very family oriented, lots of family members working together.

Maintenance (Current Employee)
Hawesville, KY

I have been working at Southwire full-time for more than 5 years

ProsGreat pay, opportunity to move up in the company. they feed you all the time at work, Get paid to sit in meeting regularly. good benefits.

ConsToo many brothers, sisters, fathers and sons working together, makes it hard for outsiders to move up in other positions. No sick days. Work 7 days a week, 12 hour shifts. never home with children, always working.

Advice to Senior ManagementLook into the hiring process and see if a uncle or father is going to be placed in some type of supervision over them. This makes it unfair to the other employees. Do more investigation on incidents that cause someone to get terminated, to find true reasons. Not just off of rumors.
Communication needs to be improved, Look into special treatment of outside sources for work. too much favoritism of certain vendors and contractors. not letting other companies have a chance.

Don't fall for the hype.

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Southwire full-time for more than 10 years

ProsSome really good employees that are willing to do whatever it takes for the company. To bad the company doesn't apreciate it.

ConsDon't try to make a long term carrier here. They are notorious for working you 30 years and throwing you out like the trash. Roy Richards did take care of the people but that has long since change. The culture is especially bad in ITS where there is lots of politics and a lack of morality. True good ole boy network here.

Advice to Senior ManagementClean house from the top down. Everytime the economy changes you lay off the workers but the fat cats that are killing your production are still employed. No worries, they are in the click.

Nepotism, Cronyism, and Complete Lack of Morality Among Upper Management

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)
Carrollton, GA

I worked at Southwire full-time for more than 8 years

ProsCoworkers that are true friends and colleagues.

ConsNo advancement unless you are in the clique or family relation to an upper level manager.

The son of one high ranking company officer was hired after an illustrious six year college stay (to get a four year degree) for a position completely unrelated to the technical requirements of his job. What is worse is he was given free reign to do as he pleased, as anyone in charge was afraid to do or say anything. Those who spoke up were terminated...
This company official's daughter and son's best friend were also GIVEN jobs with Southwire.
The advantages of royal birth!

Throughout the company, many lower level managers see what is going on but turn the other way in order to keep their jobs. Most non manager employees live in constant fear of losing their jobs, as their is always talk of cutbacks.
As another review states, "Don't believe the hype." The people in charge could care less about you or your family.

Advice to Senior ManagementMost mid and upper level managers need to go. If I were the Richards family, I'd also get rid of the "gentlemen" in charge, as they have no idea of the true vision of the company created by Roy Richards. This is Southwire, not Scrooge and Marley.

Cronyism rampant

Anonymous Employee (Former Employee)

I worked at Southwire full-time for more than 3 years

ProsNot any pros to working here unless you live in Carrollton and hate the commute to Atlanta

ConsUnless you grew up in Carrollton, you have no place at Southwire.

Advice to Senior ManagementTake care of you employees. Stop out sourcing everything and getting rid of your best workers. Better yet, don't think that the few good workers you have left can take on all the work that all the laid off or fired people left behind. A handful of people can't carry the company!!!
