I have been working at Sovereign as a contractor (more than an year)

    Pros

Major transformation program in progress - fast-moving, dynamic environment. Interesting cultural cross-play between locals and Spaniards.

    Cons

Changes of plan are often not explained to project teams or business unit managers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Explain and consult more.

I have been working at Sovereign full-time (less than an year)

    Pros

There are a lot of benefits and the work isn't really demanding.

    Cons

Your coworkers can make you either A) go crazy B) transfer C) quit. The people that surround you really is the only con.

I have been working at Sovereign full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

They are trying to be cutting edge so lots to learn ad understand, not much time to do it because everything is pretty full on.

    Cons

Too much to do in limited amounts of time leads to a chaotic environment

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Make sure that there's enough support staff before pushing projects through, trust the knowledge of internal staff more than the external consultants who only want the money

    Good, but could be better

I have been working at Sovereign full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Good benefits, built in customer base, name attracts customers and referral sources. Reasonable commission structure.

    Cons

Loan officers and financial planners who are employees do not receive a salary, yet have requirements placed on their time. They are paid a draw against overall commission and are required to log a time card with hours worked. If loans get stalled when processors are too busy, a loan officer could actually end up owing the company money. Loan officers are expected to produce large monthly closed numbers, while the processing centers are seriously understaffed with processors averaging 200 or more loan files at a time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't be penny wise and pound foolish. Hire the processing staff required to keep up with the demand.

I have been working at Sovereign

    Pros

Decent but not stellar benefits package
    Decent work - life balance

    Cons

The Spanish have no idea how to run a US company (and as it turns out they don't really know how to run a Spanish company either). They prefer to hire layer upon layer of incompetent management from the outside, rather than promote good people from within. The bureaucracy there is as bad as it gets anywhere. To say they have substandard information technology would be paying them a huge compliment. Management ranges from mediocre to completely incompetent. The pay stinks.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Every single thing you are doing now, do differently. Listen to your employees and give them incentives to perform.

Good business sustainability practice. Personally I attended some really great personal development workshops that made a real difference to my life holistically

    Cons

Needs to consider more flexibility and mobility within roles

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Need to be more progressive about 'corporate' vs 'professional – there is a difference
