    Pros

enjoy the medical device industry and the products that make a difference in someone's life. people I work with have interest in product line and making a safe, reliable product

    Cons

recent layoffs and high turnover rate, fda audits, raises extended out that don't follow inflation, poor 401k, benefit changes that result in effective pay cuts

    Advice to Management

treat employees as more than just bottom line entries, management speak does not impress and frankly insults the employees, treat them with respect

    Pros

Great people Great location Great intentions So much potential!

    Cons

Not so great commitment to excellence Not so great management styles Not so great "caring about the employee" - it's all about the bottom line

    Advice to Management

Go back to the pyramid model; you are only as great as your employees and the bottom layer will support the rest. Having been at SLHC for so long showed me the degeneration of caring about the employee; any bene we had, taken away; life balance - almost none; support from mgmt - virtually none. Shame really - has so much potential.

Nothing really - old ideas that do not work never did

    Cons

Plenty - rich at the top rule with an iron fist - micro managers - do what i say and do not question

    Advice to Management

leave now - clean house for all the old VP's - need some new blood

    Pros

    - For an intern this is a good learning experience, especially on how a product development company works. - Relaxed atmosphere; awesome colleagues (daddy and boogeyman -.-). - Most of my tasks involve directly contributing to engineering change orders - I haven't had to wash anyone's car...yet

    Cons

    - The ridiculous number of issues overwhelms the engineers. They have become more like maintenance guys too busy putting on bandaids rather than being actual engineers. - People are leaving in droves - Even though I was shielded from most of it, I do sense a lot of politics within management. - No real training; thankfully my coworkers are nice enough to guide me when I'm stuck.

    Advice to Management

The abandoned cubicles around you are the result of engineers not being able to do any of the things they went to school for.

    Pros

    Advice to Management

Need to focus on implementing proper software design procedures and product ownership.

    Pros

Positioned so close... to impact the market. Brilliant product conceptualization. Some of the strongest field sales talent in the industry. The new product is beautiful.

    Cons

....But yet are so far away. Picture the clown kicking his hat routine. Spacelabs can never quite pick up the hat. Between product issues, internal issues, FDA recalls, and inconsistent (sometimes absent) messaging, they just can't quite get it together.

    Advice to Management

Go hire back (if they'll have you) all the exceptional Marketing, Clinical, and Sales people you've let go or let get away. Some of your brightest minds now work for Philips, Cerner, Extension, and others.

    Pros

Loyal employees with the passion to build life saving products

    Cons

Poor senior leadership teams with primary focus: revenue. Pay and benefits: it is hard to find anyone who is cheaper.

    Advice to Management

Focus on delivering quality products that work, not just on revenue.

Too much to do. There is a long list of projects and products, but no ability to consistently establish priority

    Pros

Solid long-standing company with a recognized name. Very new anesthesia product. Interesting challenges.

    Cons

There is a lot of time spent on fire-drills and demands of the minute. Leadership does not have the ability to say "no" to new projects. Too much focus on immediate revenue actions. Too much focus on a few big customer needs. Aging monitoring product line.

    Advice to Management

Prioritize. Cut projects (development and business). Establish business and organization goals and stick to them

Multicultural environment good with good dedicated people. Activities, sports and gathering to promote relationships and teamwork. Focus on developing technologies and products for patients. Good innovative vision for the future.

    Cons

Challenges with improving legacy process and practices. many new products introduced over the past few years adding to the bolus of effort required. Communication are inadequate at times.

    Advice to Management

Proactive communication needed for each group. HR need to proactively understand the concerns of employees especially welfare and communicate frequently and clearly.
