    Pros

    - good opportunities for development
    - good team culture
    - supportive managers

My time at Telecom was a great opportunity to strengthen my analytical skills.

    Cons

After a while the work gets a bit repetitive and taking on additional responsibilities would be advisable.
Advice wasn't always taken on board.

    Advice to Management

Base decisions more on quantitative analysis

    Pros

Organisation promotes great ideas and there is no real hierarchies.

    Cons

In the current competitive environment there's a lot of challenges to reduce cost and at time staff can be impacted by this.

    Advice to Management

Keep promoting staff and their ideas

    Pros

High standard of professionalism and ability to deliver
Respect for and encouragement of young female employees

    Cons

Rate of organisational change was extremely high while I worked at Telecom - a restructure every year
Could be more internal promotions and fast track talent programmes

    Pros

    Dynamic, rapid changing product set.
    Leading edge Telco technology
Majority of people are very committed
    Good office/nice environment
    Good pay

    Cons

    Politics, politics, politics
    Confusing and overlapping responsibilities

    Advice to Management

There's still an upper/middle layer of old timers & egotists that need sorting before Spark truly starts to move ahead

    Pros

Smart people, challenging environment that will make you grow

    Cons

Work life balance not always exists. Was not a deterrent for me because was offset by a great environment to learn and grow

    Pros

    Good salary
    Good job opportunities
    Highly skilled individuals

    Cons

    Going through heavy restructuring
Get the feeling upper management will keep squeezing until things get really ugly. Already many individuals are over worked as a result of mass redundancies. Maybe a good company to work for at the end of it but right now things are pretty ugly

    Advice to Management

Stop making one-size-fits-all decisions. When you squeeze too hard you lose good people because they tend to be the ones with options to go elsewhere. At the moment the company may end up with just dead wood who couldn't get a job elsewhere

    Pros

    Gold partner with Cisco
    Edge technologies
    Fair culture
Good support from managers for hard workers
    Easy communication with top managers

    Cons

    lots of restructures
    Bad delegations of tasks
Too many managers ( owners) for one section or product
Colony running between some caused cover up mistake from colony but very bad action if someone else out of colony made a mistake

    Advice to Management

Needs to reduce number of owners or managers
    More trusts to senior engineers

    Pros

Good salary, internet & mobile package

    Cons

No training given. Salary doesn't equal hours involved. No work life balance it sure ruined my marriage. Working at least 10 hours in the day time and usually an hour dealing with issues at night. Expectation that emails/phone calls will be attended to immediately. No breaks, no lunch break. Work through lunch and eat lunch at your desk or during a meeting. Don't record your hours over 7 hours of working. New Zealand's Department of Labour should really look into this. Work culture from management of either you like it or you get out and with all the restructuring there will be someone else to take your place. Some areas were top heavy and some people needed to go though. Everyone is too scared to say anything. Indian workers offshore work different hours starting at 4pm NZ time so there's an expectation that you will answer their queries when its NZ night. Workers in Auckland speaking in Hindi to each other then forget you speak English.

    Advice to Management

No one communicates properly. It's all hands off 'it's not my problem' - no ownership of problems. Some workers creaming it while others get dumped with it all. Teams don't work together to solve problems.
Restructure juggles teams around and someone brings in a 'bright idea' that they go with that actually doesn't work 6 months down the track. You can't keep changing things just because it seems like a good idea at the time.
