I worked at Spark New Zealand

    Pros

    Good salary
    Good job opportunities
    Highly skilled individuals

    Cons

    Going through heavy restructuring
Get the feeling upper management will keep squeezing until things get really ugly. Already many individuals are over worked as a result of mass redundancies. Maybe a good company to work for at the end of it but right now things are pretty ugly

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop making one-size-fits-all decisions. When you squeeze too hard you lose good people because they tend to be the ones with options to go elsewhere. At the moment the company may end up with just dead wood who couldn't get a job elsewhere

I have been working at Spark New Zealand full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Good salary, internet & mobile package

    Cons

No training given. Salary doesn't equal hours involved. No work life balance it sure ruined my marriage. Working at least 10 hours in the day time and usually an hour dealing with issues at night. Expectation that emails/phone calls will be attended to immediately. No breaks, no lunch break. Work through lunch and eat lunch at your desk or during a meeting. Don't record your hours over 7 hours of working. New Zealand's Department of Labour should really look into this. Work culture from management of either you like it or you get out and with all the restructuring there will be someone else to take your place. Some areas were top heavy and some people needed to go though. Everyone is too scared to say anything. Indian workers offshore work different hours starting at 4pm NZ time so there's an expectation that you will answer their queries when its NZ night. Workers in Auckland speaking in Hindi to each other then forget you speak English.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

No one communicates properly. It's all hands off 'it's not my problem' - no ownership of problems. Some workers creaming it while others get dumped with it all. Teams don't work together to solve problems.
Restructure juggles teams around and someone brings in a 'bright idea' that they go with that actually doesn't work 6 months down the track. You can't keep changing things just because it seems like a good idea at the time.

I worked at Spark New Zealand full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexible and relatively relaxed working environment (a lot better than many corporates, but not exactly "Google")
Complex industry dynamics means a lot is learnt in the roles. Company also values personal development and training.

    Cons

Like any big corporate it gets political. People with influence tend to push their agendas

I have been working at Spark New Zealand full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Flexibility and work facilities/environment. Central location in CBD, good office.

    Cons

no employee development or training. The thinking is - "I hired a plumber, he needs to stick to his plumbing and leave when the job is done". Restructuring. Bureaucracy.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Some training will surely make a lot of people happy as large section of the employees are technical people.
