    Pros

Encouraged innovation, Great customer and employee care. The name Sparkfun says it all. In order to satisfy the customer, it starts at the top, the CEO cultivated this. It is no wonder they are successful.

    Cons

    I dont have any Cons.

I worked at SparkFun full-time (less than a year)

    Pros

Good discounts on products and a decent bonus.

    Cons

Sparkfun is a company founded on pretending to be something it is not. Although it presents itself as an open, friendly family this is only a thin veneer; under the surface the internal structuring is constantly at odds with itself. Management consists solely of friends and friends of friends, regardless of experience or qualifications. This leads to a lot of last minute freak outs trying to shore up some mistake that was made, and an insane amount of confusion while trying to fix it.

If you are a looking for an engineering or marketing job, you would like to work here, but if you are only going for first floor production work you should look elsewhere. This company harbors superiority and elitism and looks down on anyone with less two master's degrees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Be honest with your employees and try to be around them at least one hour a week.

I have been working at SparkFun

    Pros

Everyone is open and respectful with each other. No politics. The CEO eats lunch right next to the new guy from Kitting or Shipping, and they have great conversations. It's a real community feeling to work at SparkFun, everyone is giving extra effort to make the company succeed. And it is succeeding!

    Cons

Pay is on the poor to average side--the many perks of working here are NOT monetary. SparkFun's fast growth rate means that there are always some growing pains. Procedures could be more clearly defined in some jobs.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Keep up the good work, although bumping up salaries a little bit certainly wouldn't hurt your employees! You've built a great group of people, make sure to keep them around.
