    Pros

    Plenty of overtime always available.

    Cons

Always short staffed, supervisors of certain department not held accountable for lack of supervison...

    Advice to Management

Hold the supervisors to the same or higher standard that you hold employees to. It's hard for a employee to receive instruction from someone that does not follow the rules themselves.

    Pros

Great experience. Great members. Good food. The facilities are amazing and the upkeep of them is fantastic.

    Cons

You occasionally come across members who are very entitled and want to treat you like a servant.

    Advice to Management

Continue to upgrade facilities and empower your employees who are top notch.

    Pros

The hourly pay is very competitive compared to other hospitals in the Michigan area. I would say that Sparrow provides one of the highest hourly wages in the area. And if you live in or around the Lansing area it is an easy commute.

    Cons

In my 15 years with this hospital I have seen profound changes and not for the better. Like most hospitals they are experiencing increased cost and decreased returns. That means, reduced staffing numbers across the board. Eliminating entire areas of the hospital and outsourcing of employees. Changing retirement plans to place the burden on the employee rather than the employer. Increased health care cost for employees and their families, yet only providing an annual 1% raise that does not keep up with inflation. Having union representation that seems more concerned about their relationship with upper management than the employees that PAY THEIR SALARY !!! Using electronic charting and it's data to benefit patients and penalize employees. Not providing employee support and room for advancement. And more importantly not providing the resources to educate their employees to create a knowledgable and competitive workforce of the future.

    Advice to Management

Listen to your employees, you conduct numerous annual surveys to elicit a response from your frontline staff. But you collect the data and do nothing with it. I assume that you know how to reasonably interpret the information but you simply choose to ignore the facts that are right in front of you. Your employees are not satisfied. Eventually it will and probably already has trickled down to your customers. One of the key aspects of business is to know your customers and your employees are also your customers.

    Pros

You get thrown into the fire fast. It is a great place to learn and grow quickly. Overall not much micro management.

    Cons

Long term employees are not compensated well especially compared to new hires. Processes are overdone and dragged out so it can take a long time and a lot more work to accomplish something that would otherwise be quick and easy.

    Advice to Management

Reward people correctly who have been here the longest and put the most work in.

    Pros

The patients keep you busy, so its never a dull moment. most of the co-workers are amazing to work with. They defintely pay well and have great benefits.

    Cons

Management leaves much to be desired. More staffing is definitely a necessity. Very over-worked most days, patient to employee volume is very high

    Advice to Management

Hire more people and treat those you have with more respect and admiration.

    Pros

    Nice breakroom with free coffee

    Cons

Poorly managed departments, too much work with expectation that you will work from home, support overnight on weekends, on call one week a month 24/7 without compensation, expected to work over weekend with no extra pay or time off, extreme differences in salary based entirely on length of time as employee, regardless of experience or job duties, leadership is shady and does not believe in transparency, no vacation roll-over, no bonuses, no incentives, way too many meetings.

    Advice to Management

Be honest with your employees, don't try to pull the wool over their eyes. We all know we get paid less than industry standards and we all talk about it all the time. In IT specifically, i couldnt tell you a single employee that trusted leadership because no one did. Even the best employees who worked there for 15-20 years couldnt stand how convuluted and sneaky they were. Get your act together because at any given time you may lose a huge number of your caregivers; i knew at least ten in my deptment who were activeky looking for other jobs
