    Pros

Variety of goods and services. Awesome employees. Great hours, always closed by 9 PM as per TX law, and not open on Sunday's. Great vendors and for the most part our customers are the best.

    Cons

Can be challenging to meet your financial goals as a salesperson based on amount of extraneous work, like transfers (which is a constant, chaotic mess). Some key people that are in HO Mgmt roles and have been with the company for a while have "God" like status and the egos to match, making getting information or trying to make decisions within the store challenging. The "open door policy" does not exist here. It is run like the military, never go around or over your supervisor for anything, even a suggestion. Because it is a liquor store there is the constant barrage of theft & college kids trying to get over on you.

    Advice to Management

Hold everyone accountable not just the stores. You have some of the "old guard" that need to be reviewed on a daily basis. Have an open door policy that truly works. Communication is paramount to staying viable.

    Pros

    Great assortment of products.
Very laid back atmosphere (so laid back to the point of being a con).
The atmosphere was fun to work in.
It was good to at least have a paycheck while between real jobs.

    Cons

I applied here with 8 years of management from a fortune 100 company that brings in close to a billion dollars in revenue every year and was offered a laughable position as a stocker (had to take the job because i needed a paycheck).

I was promoted 3 times in my 6 months here but getting management to push through pay raises was like pulling teeth. One of my raises was 12 weeks late and was short of the amount that was agreed on between the district manager and myself.

Pay rates are very low unless you are in the management boys club.

Management is VERY hands off at all levels. And you can forget about any performance coaching.

HQ employees are very rude and not open to ideas and feedback.

If anyone makes you any kind of offer on positions or pay GET IT IN WRITING.

Luckily i was able to get out of this job and start somewhere that appreciates hard work and talent.

    Advice to Management

John and Lindy, You two need to either be more involved with the company or step back and hire someone to run it for you. Set hiring standards for your company as well. If you knew a fraction of some of the things that happen in your stores or they way your employees represent your company on a daily basis you would be very disappointed. Your upper management is a joke from my experience in your company. Just because someone knows the alcohol industry doesn't mean they know leadership and how to run a business. You could do so much more with the right people in place.

    Pros

Great starting pay, you start accumulating Pto hours right away, the atmosphere, company benefits, the customers are almost always happy and easy to deal with.

    Cons

When you have to deal with drunk people, moving up is hard, getting full time hours is hard, don't work here if you don't like to stand for long periods of time.

    Advice to Management

    Inventory system needs some help.

    Pros

You immediately begin accruing PTO, and insurance. They do hire from within the company, so there will be opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Sometimes management can see to be a little distant from its employees. Also, the insurance plan could stand to be a little better.

    I worked at Specs

    Pros

Great customer service from all employees. The pay was good and the work was easy. Even the customers were a lot of fun!

    Cons

The store manager has no idea how to handle female employees. Made females cry and feel discriminated against. All the while giving the males more advantages. Also, upper management (including store manager) are a bunch of kiss up Good Ole Boys.

    Advice to Management

You should pay more attention to the people who really run the store and get no credit. Sooner or later your company is going to get sued for discrimination especially at this store. Also, you might take a look at your DMs. They are ruthless little hounds who eliminate good employees on the recommendation of piss-poor managers that think they are above policy violations.
