    Pros

Great starting pay, you start accumulating Pto hours right away, the atmosphere, company benefits, the customers are almost always happy and easy to deal with.

    Cons

When you have to deal with drunk people, moving up is hard, getting full time hours is hard, don't work here if you don't like to stand for long periods of time.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Inventory system needs some help.

    Pros

You immediately begin accruing PTO, and insurance. They do hire from within the company, so there will be opportunities for advancement.

    Cons

Sometimes management can see to be a little distant from its employees. Also, the insurance plan could stand to be a little better.

    I worked at Specs

    Pros

Great customer service from all employees. The pay was good and the work was easy. Even the customers were a lot of fun!

    Cons

The store manager has no idea how to handle female employees. Made females cry and feel discriminated against. All the while giving the males more advantages. Also, upper management (including store manager) are a bunch of kiss up Good Ole Boys.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You should pay more attention to the people who really run the store and get no credit. Sooner or later your company is going to get sued for discrimination especially at this store. Also, you might take a look at your DMs. They are ruthless little hounds who eliminate good employees on the recommendation of piss-poor managers that think they are above policy violations.

I worked at Specs full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

Some stores are flexible with scheduling, There starting to hire as many part timers as possible, hence the MART part. Good place for a part time job to supplement income. if you are a sommelier or management you should do well. No training what so ever, unless you attend tasting to further your liquor, beer or wine education. Office culture is very "Dr Jeckle and Mr Hide". They pay a little more than min wage because of the TABC training and food handlers. You will spend a total of one day per week educating your self about the products(sales people) beer liquor ect.... Wholesale sales reps do very well, drivers get lots of over time, in store wholesale workers work very hard.

    Cons

Scheduling is hit or miss, they have gone from a wine sales company to accounting company in the last 10 years. Some Beer, wine and liquor sales people do well, most do not. You will never rationalize with management. there are maybe one, two or three good jobs per store sometimes management others department. Store managers are all bossiness, they are slowly loosing there people skills. Specs is no longer a place where adults purchase alcohol.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Specs will have trouble in the coming years, probably financial cash in wile you can or expand to other venues, such as other states or other industries. Buy total tobacco for example. growing to fast or wrong take your pic. Good luck Specs I wish you the best, the "old man" knew what he was doing.

I have been working at Specs full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

Educational benefits are great, if you can get them.
Work environment can be pretty relaxed, depending on co-workers.
    Guaranteed Sundays off.

    Cons

No pay raises. No promotions. No appreciation. The lack of communication (keeping a store's closing secret to even the employees of that store until it is imminent), is appalling.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Spend some time in the trenches. Provide an anonymous forum for suggestions. Pay your people what they're worth. Stop the nepotism. Stop buying/opening new stores when your employees can't make a living wage. Put money back into the company. Update the computer systems. Listen to the users.
