I worked at Spectrum Brands full-time (more than 3 years)

    Pros

I joined the company before we were acquired by Spectrum Brands and it was a great place to work!

    Cons

Lack of communication and information sharing. Over promising and under delivering on projects and commitments. Antiquated methods that are not efficient for larger acquisitions.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Stop being so arrogant and try working with others outside of your immediate circle. You might be surprised at what you can accomplish if you do. It's ok to admit you need help or made a mistake, people will appreciate and respect the honesty.

    Pros

    - Lots of involvement at any level of employment
    - Great opportunities for growth if one takes initiative
    - Overall good work culture and great people

    Cons

    - Lean organization
    - Not for the employee who needs/enjoys lots of structure; company expects individuals to take initiative and be proactive

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Increase and make more efficient the communication between separate departments and continue to reduce cost waste; however; not by cutting jobs.

I have been working at Spectrum Brands full-time (more than 5 years)

    Pros

The constant change and growth provides for many opportunities to learn, grow and move around internally. If you express interest in other areas people will listen. The people are great to work with. Bonus payouts for 6+ years.

    Cons

Work life balance can be a challenge if you let it; no one is going to make you go home. You need to be an adult, manage your workload and it won't be a problem.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

You cannot keep adding businesses without adding staff and expect employees to be effective in their roles. Teams are lean - need to add some staff.

Could be a great work environment

    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee
    Current Employee - Anonymous Employee

I have been working at Spectrum Brands

    Pros

The challenge of the projects and day to day work will provide great opportunities to contribute to the organization. You will interact and have the opportunity to work with a variety of cross functional teams. Generally this is a very fast paced work environment.

    Cons

There is no work/life balance, it's clear that leadership is not interested in the opinions of their employees or making it a good environment to work in. It's a very cut throat; people and their talents are not valued. Our division leaders say we should be putting the company needs before our families. That reason alone shows how out of touch they are with their employees.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Reward those that are both great at their work and treat you with respect. Stop valuing bullying. The amount of people to do certain projects are not enough to meet goals.
