    Cons

    50 hrs a week, but what company doesn't require the hours if you want to move up and be successful.

    Most of my customers are nice and I love to see them everyday!

    Cons

    No break
    Long hours
    And the management is horrible.
    They never listen to there employees and csrs are the ultimate fault for everything.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Understand that your lesser employees have a life outside of work as well. We have friends children spouses and school that has to be taken care of.

    Pros

    Good potential if you know the right people, the pay is good if you've been hired recently, and if you like to dedicate your entire life to your job, this is the place to be. Monthly bonuses that can top into the $2,000-$3,000 range.

    Cons

    Bad communication from upper management, almost impossible standards. They tempt you into management with the possibility of huge bonuses of 2-3,000 a month, but the actuality is only 300-500. Mandatory weekend shifts. They pride themselves on training, but the actually training is hurried, incomplete and stressful because they are too worried about cutting hours to save money and don't have proper staff to ensure proper training. Managers get paid salary for 50 hr work weeks, but most work between 60-70 hrs and are on call 24\7.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    It is clear to most employees that Speedway has lost sight of the customer. This is proven by long lines in almost every store because of the drastic cut in labor hours over the last year. Customers are caring less about the rewards program and will go elsewhere to be taken care of better, and not be harassed to buy candy, or get a rewards card. There are plenty of SLs and CSRs that are willing to move up to CMT but you choose to hire off the street. This creates a huge problem at store level because the CMTs you hire have no idea what is expected of them. They complain when they work weekends, they complain when they have to work in the cooler, do the the outside and god forbid they have to clean the bathroom. they're happy when in CM training....Monday - Friday 6-4 but then when they become full fledged CM, its a different life, a different story. SLs and CSRs are more apt to be a strong and capable member of management because they've been there, they've worked it, they LIVED IT!! When I say Speedway is getting to big for its britches, It feels like the people who are making policy now have no idea what it takes to run a store. Yes, they ran stores 10-15 years ago when you didn't have food, when you made coffee every 2 hours, when there was no MLCB scan rates, when there was not REA/FQI. Take a break, step back. 10 years ago, you took a survey from your employees....maybe its time to do that again. I really think that Sr Management thinks they are being fair and doing a good service to their employees, but what is being translated to the bottom....not so much.

    Pros

    Flexible Scheduling, Benefits, Bonuses, Great People, Fast Pace.

    Cons

    High expectations (which is a good thing) but ever decreasing labor hours to execute them. Constant job threats, there are more ways to get fired in this job that I've ever seen in my life. Even if you have an awesome DM the management above them will beat you down. This company has gone to a no positive feedback mentality, if they point out the positive you won't do anything better.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Revaluate what you are doing at store level. The expectations and inspections are not the problem its the resources and mentality you create to enable managers to execute them. Quit hiring LPPs directly out of college that have no experience and focus on internal promotion. I have seen 15+ of these LPPs in the past 3 years and only 1 has survived, most can't even effectively communicate with others. You have a great company and an opportunity to be the best, although the road you are going down now with Scare tactic management, constant negativity, and not enough resources for stores to be executing will provide inevitable failure in the long run.

    Pros

    Double pay on holidays, quarterly bonus based on food and candy sales, 25 cent raise after 6 months then a 10, 20, or 30 cent raise after one year.

    Cons

    Little completion time given, poor management, no breaks at all, barely time to use bathroom or eat food, fast training with little help afterward, hours cut at random, hours are determined by performance and last years sales.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    For DMs and RMs, be more involved with your general managers, assistant managers, and shift leaders. Many of them do not know how to run a store and bend the rules.

    For the recruitment center, be more in depth and one on one with the people you interview and cautious of who you hire. 80% of new employees I have seen come in since I started were very unprofessional, slow learning, and immature.

    For corporate, a 15 minute break would not hurt anyone. Also hours per sale quota is bad for your employees. Many college students work for your company and have difficulty affording school with all the hour cuts.

    Pros

    Benefits are great. Very fast paced. Close relationships with your employees. You can really start to feel comfortable when working there for just a couple months.

    Cons

    Pay is great but is still hourly and when you have bills to pay and your hours randomly get cut from over staffing it gets hard. There is a LOT to be done when being a shift lead, you have to know how to make sure everything goes smoothly and if anything goes wrong you Have to know how to fix it and fix it quick. All the things you have to do from store maintenance to typical POS transactions need to be mastered in a short time. I was hired in as a Shift lead and had to learn the management part of the job and the typical CSR’s job as well. Luckily i had a good trainer at the beginning but again they pushed my training too fast and wasn’t comfortable with doing anything till 3 months later.

    Just because this is a stepping stone to a better future for you, it doesn’t mean you should ignore half the things that need to be done. Pay attention to what you need to do to help out the customers and what you should do to prepare your employees for their job after training.

    Pros

    I worked at the speedway on 86th and Zionsville Road in Indy. Most of the customers were very friendly and rarely dealt with rude customers. You don't get a discount, but you do get a speedy rewards card, like customers.

    Cons

    minimum wage, no break room, only part time work available, unreliable team members, no growth potential, you have to ask everyone if they want candy (sales). If you do not make the sales goal for the candy, you may be asked to wear a candy costume and go outside and wave to customers.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Consider a break room for your hardworking employees, who stand up all day.

    Pros

    The store I worked at had a great store manager and supportive employees. They offer a great training program for management which helps introduce new managers to coaching, PNL, etc.

    Cons

    If you're in a small store it can be hard to get all the tasks done that the company requires. Not enough people or hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

    Take into account that some stores don't enough people on to fully complete all tasks on your ECE sheet. If you want the standards to be high, you need to have the staff for it.
