Former Employee – worked at Spencer Gifts full-time for more than a year
Pros – You can wear whatever you want. The job is easy and you don't have to do anything really.
Cons – The management is terrible and complaints do not go through to Human resources. They ignored a manager of mine who was verbally abusing the employees and customers for months. And they still did not fire them. Nor did they fire another manager who was doing the exact same thing. They made an excuse to lay me off even though I was hired as full time. I didn't feel like waking up to go to work because the environment was that hostile. When I went for the interview they said "we'll never yell or scream like other jobs." this was a complete lie. I was yelled at by far more than any other job I had ever had. I wouldn't go back there if they begged me to.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your employees before you let good ones go. They are due for a good lawsuit as I've heard for multiple chains that they treat their employees terribly. This is a job for teenagers not those who need a good and solid work environment.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm not optimistic about the outlook for this company

Former Employee – worked at Spencer Gifts part-time for less than a year
Pros – Casual dress code
Interesting products to try and sell
Cons – Too much product ( your main job is to catch shoplifters)
Floor changes constantly
Plan-o-grams will contradict themselves
Advice to Senior Management – Reorganize the structure of the store
If you carry as many facings as you do expect product loss. Make the main focus sales not asset protection.

Former Employee – worked at Spencer Gifts part-time for less than a year
Pros – Fun, Good if you enjoy working with people, not a difficult job by any length or measure, the team is also a lot of fun and for the most part the managers were cool. This job is far from
Cons – Room for advancement is minimal, no benefits, minimum wage, not a whole lot of hours. When they told me that my seasonal tenure was up they got a sales associate to call and tell us instead of the manager doing it himself.
Advice to Senior Management – I know spencer's is a goofy and fun place to work but at the same time certain things should still be treated professionally. If you have made a change to an employees schedule they should call and tell them there has been a change, if you are letting go of an employee do it yourself, don't get your sales associates who make minimum wage to take the heat.

Former Employee – worked at Spencer Gifts part-time for less than a year
Pros – Easy, sometimes fun, interesting people work there, no dress code, employee discounts
Cons – Everything gets old. Fast. No hours, shoddy pay (like really less than $100 for two weeks), bi-weekly pay, unfair treatment (SS would always come late, or just not come, nothing. I have a panic attack at work and get written up for slacking off. This place honestly caused me to have multiple panic attacks a month. They changed the schedule on days I was off (which was 6 days of the week) and never told me, I was fired for missing work twice (two more write ups) because of this. Huge shoplifting problem (to be fair those people are the ones they target) both customers AND employees. Silly pocket check does nothing. Obligation to talk to and push every single customer to buy things like some kind of used car salesman.
Oh, and almost all the stuff there is cheap crap from China worth not even half what it's priced for and falls apart like nothing.
Advice to Senior Management – Be more professional, stop picking favorites. You hire too many people with almost no reason to actually hire them, I almost didn't say a word the whole interview and she just talked and talked and I got the job. Maybe if you tried a little harder to get to know who you're hiring this place wouldn't be in the toilet.

Cons – Limited career opportunities
Management lacks polish and professionalism
Employee morale is low

Former Employee – worked at Spencer Gifts part-time for more than a year
Pros – -Very lax dress code. They don't care.
- I made quite a few friends; decent people work there (they just don't like showing up for work ;p)
-25% discount and 40% on special weekends
Cons – My new manager had favorites and if you were not one of them, sucks to be you. I was not one of them. Most employees would either not show up for work or wouldn't want to and never get penalized. I was sick one day and called and I got written up when other employees were never even given a verbal warning. They are also paranoid about internal theft and treat everyone like they are going to steal every time they are alone which was really not the case in my store. Also, if you work hard, forget ever get praised for it. Most of the time your managers will take credit for your hard work. They also like to make promises like giving you insurance and vacation after one year but then find a way to not give it to you. For me, my apparent full time position was actually a part time position (I never knew of this) and so according to them I would never receive vacation or health insurance.
Advice to Senior Management – Spend a less time being paranoid about your employees and more time applauding them for their hard work.
