Pros
I found Spherion a good company to work for and valued the talented, committed people I worked with.
Cons
Executive leadership team is a bit out of touch
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to your employees. They know what is happening in the market, can anticipate future needs of customers and are passionate about the business.
Pros
I am a recent college graduate that was hired this summer into an entry level position. Since joining the company I have had the opportunity gain first-hand experience and grow within the company. All of the employees and supervisors have been really nice and helpful. I even had the chance to meet Roy, the CEO and he was very friendly, approachable, and genuinely interested in the work I was doing for the company. I would wholeheartedly recommend working for this company!
Cons
Spherion has a very traditional work environment that may not be suited to all workers. It is also hard to find parking.
Advice to Senior Management
Overall, Spherion is a great company to work for and they offer many opportunities to advance within the company. I would recommend salary increases based on our annual reviews.
Pros
Generally nice people that seem to care about their customers and fellow employees.
Good compensation and performance reward programs.
Cons
Executives frequently throw people under the bus to cover their failures and inadequacies.
Poor benefits
No focus on front line employee training
Constantly changing strategic and tactical plans
Advice to Senior Management
Clean house on the executive team.
Rebuild decimated HR Department
Create a business plan and stick to it.
Board of Directors needs to take a more active and accountable role
Pros
-My skills were recognisd and quick to hire when in job market
-Fairly formal procedures that makes it better to work
Cons
- organized chaos in IT
- Frequent changes in Middle management
- Business screws IT
- Lets go skilled employees because they cost more
- Sometimes feel penny wise pound foolish
- In IT manpower cost perceived cheaper than machine cost whereas the whole world thinks the other way
Advice to Senior Management
- Upgrade your peoplesoft
- Focus on more aggressive selling than cost cutting
Pros
Good name recognitions and visibility in the commmunity. The name opened to doors to employers to help you build relationships.
Cons
Very competitive, cut throat environment where co-workers do not attempts to work together. Managers have their favorites that they pass hot leads to.
Advice to Senior Management
Provide better training to manager and associates. Rely less on rubrics and more on developing the skills of the employees
Pros
Will take you straight out of college or little experience
You learn alot of systems
Employee recognition
Flex time
Cons
You are expected to work long hours if you want to be considered to move up
Advice to Senior Management
Work on Time Management and Efficiency
Pros
Good commissions if you already have the contacts and bring new business.
Well known.
Cons
There is one or two layoffs a year. Constant fear of Layoffs. High turnover.
Very Political. It seems that the field recruiters and corporate manager are out of touch regarding goals.
Not a good place to start as a recruiter.
Company grew too fast by acquiring Todays, Technisource, and spinning off professional recruiting to the Mergis.
Will not pay for training.
It seems to be behind the curve in comparison to companies in the same space.
Advice to Senior Management
To communicate with and listen to recruiters in the field.
Pros
They really give you a fair chance at being able to succeed.
Cons
They company has gone through some rough times and they seem to let people go that have been able to help them out. The company does not provide a great work to life ratio balance. They expect you to go home and login and continue working after you have put in the hours in the office. Also they are so short staffed and for being a staffIng company you would expect them to have more then enough employees to do the daily work.
Advice to Senior Management
none
Pros
If right out of college you can learn about headhunting and computers
Cons
everyone is constantly watched closely and criticized for any small mistake. even a innocent typo in an email to a peer or an administrator brings wrath upon you. I could see thi happening if the email was going to a member of management, But if its just amoung peers,,,,,,,the constant criticism is a way to keep you in your place. so you feel bad about yourself and will not ask for a raise. so you will lose all individualism and just go along with anything, so you don't think for yourelf. You are treated like a 5 year old-everyone is. But even a 5 year old is treated with a respectful tone - at Spherion its ok to be rude to your coworkers and lie to make someone look bad, The Branch and V.P.'s have no idea how to run the territories. They have no loyalty to those under them, have no motivational skills. If a corporate motivational consultant came into this company and evaluated it he would be totally shocked. He would us it as a case model of how bad a company could be. For example, we are not allowed to NOT take a phone call from a client or temp - I mean if I am in the bathroom down the hall someone is sent in to tell me I have a call waiting - and I am not slow in bathroom breaks. We are required to use our own cell phones for company use, our cell numbers are listed in the company directory, yet we are not reimbursed for any of the expenses. We have an hour for lunch, but it you take more than 1/2 hour you can bet that people will ask you where you have been and why your not motivated to work. Dentist appointments should not be scheduled during working hours (you have any idea how hard it is to find a dentist doing work after hours or on Saturday)?
Advice to Senior Management
Just watch TV shows and see that people in office settings are not treated like children as we are. We are adults and all of us have at least 4 yr college degrees, if not MBA and PHD's. How can you treat us like children, when we are self-motivated and very hard working to begin with? The added dis-respect is so depressing. We ive in nice homes, have upper middle class lives, and are treated with disrespect. See us as people. Not just an expense you dislike.
Pros
Used to be the medical and dental plan and the 401k. Used to be we could take time off whenever, but now with slowing economy its "al hands on deck" every day.
Cons
Do not match to 401k now, so its better to set up a individual roth IRA, computers here are very old
Advice to Senior Management
you need to visit branch offices and see irst hand if the people running the branches are qualified
