Pros – Chance to see new places, pay is awesome, stay in nice hotels most of the time if there's a decent one in the town you're in
Cons – No benefits, no sick time, no time off. You will be expected to rip off your customers. Management will tell you to start off by offering 6 dollars per pennyweight for gold trading for 40 dollars and discipline you for being anywhere near "fair" with a customer.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your appraisers and leads, stop being so greedy. The CEO is a good man that has questionable management running the business for him. If he was more involved than his upper management it would be a better company.
Pros – They do put you in decent hotels most of the time. It's a decent first exposure to this industry.
Cons – Upper management in this company does not listen to any suggestions from employees. They think they know everything even though most of them have very little business experience outside of this company. They do NOT communicate effectively at all. There ethics are in the toilet. They will tell you to steal from customers without coming right out and saying it. The head office has mostly the owners friends in it who take advantage of their relationship with him to a sickening degree. I personally would never sell anything to these people. They are not fair with the general public, and train you poorly in how to scam. It's a mobile pawn shop with no loans basically. I think their BBB status tells you everything about them.
Advice to Senior Management – Stop thinking you know everything when you have done nothing but destroy this company. Seriously look at the numbers over the last 12 months. Stop sending untrained people out to appraise valuables they have no business appraising. LISTEN TO YOUR PEOPLE.
Pros – Offers travel experience, fun way to break into sales, people sell you their items in an age where Pawn Shop reality shows are a hit. You never know what someone will bring in, every customer is different.
Cons – Company lacks work/life balance & structure, training program is a joke and any associate looking for additional help with training really has to push for it..Company ethics is poor, and often cannot beat competition when tested. Customers Overall lack negotiation skills and therefor makes this job frustrating at times.
Advice to Senior Management – Listen to your managers and appraisers for advice, we all really do have some great ideas for the future of this company of you actually took the time to hear us out.
