Current Employee – been working at Spirent Communications full-time for more than a year
Pros – Good size - big enough to be more stable than start-up, but small enough to not be too beaurocratic
Incredibly intelligent co-workers
Overall good environment
Cons – Still struggling with "silo-ism" from patchwork of past acquisitions
Communications blockages still in some areas of the organization - but improving
Rough entry/onboarding for new employees
Advice to Senior Management – Stay humble - you're really good at some things, but need to keep improving as leaders of the organization, from the first line supervisors all the way through C-suite. Good progress over the last couple of years, so keep it going.

Current Employee – been working at Spirent Communications full-time for more than a year
Pros – Could be a great environment depending on your manager & team
Casual atmosphere
Flexible schedule
Training or resources for improving skillset are available if you ask for them
Opportunities to work on more challenging projects if you can make the business case for them
Cons – Compensation & benefits are on the low end of tech jobs in Silicon Valley
Internal politics & big egos
Old school way of thinking & executing solutions
Undefined career ladder - you will need to be able to negotiate and advocate for yourself. This might be true of most companies, however.
Too many silos
Advice to Senior Management – Leave your ego at the door. Be a leader, not a "boss"
Stop using antiquated metrics
Use a more rigorous process for vetting candidates. Bad hires can cost a lot of time, money & resources and worst of all, lower employee morale.

Current Employee – been working at Spirent Communications full-time
Pros – Great team, smart people, competitive products. Flexible schedules which offsets sometimes heavy work demands. While with any company you will have some gripes with management decisions at the end of the day Spirent has more positives going for them. Management works hard at trying to understand employees wants/needs as well as rolling out what needs to be done, when possible, to keep the team happy and feeling valued.
Cons – While the benefits are competitive and good, for the "technology" industry the benefits could be a little better.
Yes, I would recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Spirent Communications full-time for more than 8 years
Pros – Excellent people to work with. A good place to learn if you don't mind no upward-mobility.
Cons – All they care about is the bottom-line.
Advice to Senior Management – Share some of the company's profits with the employees who actually do the work.
No, I would not recommend this company to a friend – I'm optimistic about the outlook for this company

Current Employee – been working at Spirent Communications
Pros – Very bright people who are laid-back and down to earth. An environment that is not overly political, and challenging work to go to every day.
Cons – Battling silo-ism, and need to continue to open up the free flow of information through out all lines of business and levels
Advice to Senior Management – Keep working on improvements to the organizational structure, the skill of management at all levels, and communications

Former Employee – worked at Spirent Communications
Pros – The work life balance at Spirent is excellent.
The teams are very good - there was very limited politicking and backstabbing.
Cons – The company has been struggling for a while (as of 2011), so pay tends to be under-competitive, and promotions are hard to get.
It is a standard mid-size unexciting Silicon Valley company - very "Office Space" like. There's no excitement of the sort you get from being in a sexy new startup or in developing something that's going to change the world. It's pretty much do your work and go home, which is great if you want to focus on other things besides just work though.
