    Pros

    The best parts of working there were the other employees and the supervisors were always helpful. Great customers too. Always enjoyed my time at work.

    Cons

    Really not too many cons. The managers and supervisor were helpful. Not a whole lot of complaints. Everybody was genuinely nice

    Low pay, no overtime slow process in moving up.

    pro deals free scuba license and free repairs on bike snowboard you name it

    lost my full time postion because they got bought out.

    Pros

    discount on some products, very little car traffic so commute is easy

    company took on too much debt.

    The people at Sport Chalet are great.

    Pros

    A lot of hours
    Get to help people receive the tools to live a more active life
    Some incentives

    Cons

    -Managers hire anyone off the street
    -Make extremely unrealistic sales goals for employees and assign tasks that they couldn't accomplish themselves
    - Management encouraged us to sell effort items to customers even if they didn't need them (insoles)
    -Hire college students and then get upset when they have limited availability/ need time off for school
    -Talk down to subordinates as if they are children and hardly use positive reinforcement (MICROMANAGING)
    -I didn't even know CEO's name and I worked there an entire two years
    -Sales goals based of unfair percentage system (if you're in a low volume store and sell one effort item to 3/10 customers that come in that day you already have 30% if your work in a high volume store like at a mall which can bring in hundreds of customers in one day its almost impossible to get a percentage that meets goals because you can't give customers attention)
    -Male to woman employee ratio is extremely off
    -Keep employees after WAY after closing (had to stay up to an extra two hours almost every night even when my department was spotless because apparel messed around all day)
    -Marketing tactics all wrong (target adults and families but sell bright highlighter colored items not desired by target market)
    -Really have next to no company culture and don't care about their employees (people that worked there 3+ years said it used to be a really great company to work for)
    -I had no idea what their mission statement even was
    -Care more about making money than providing top quality customer service

    Advice to Management

    Focus on customer service and show some respect to employees. Hire people who actually want to work because it makes it harder on their coworkers to pick up their slack. Remember: happy employees = better customer service = happier customers = more money (not the other way around!!)

    Awsome people

    perks like free rentals and free ski days

    Low pay, little to no income growth
    poor corporate culture
    Declining concern for employees
    over emphasis on credit card outcomes

    Advice to Management

    Maintain original employee driven focus At the core of norbets business model. Having well trained experts is a hallmark of the company. Declining pay, less perks, and increasingly disconnected corporate culture has replaced a highly skilled long term staff with a steady stream of undertrained low income workers

    Very little opportunity to move up. I often felt that I had to wait for a higher up to move stores to even get a faint glimmer of hope for advancement; however, there was often someone from another store that would come to fill their position.

    Pros

    great discounts instore/pro deals from almost all companies we work with.
    Fun, interesting customers
    Coworkers are nice
    great about granting employee time off requests

    Cons

    Poor corporate culture
    focused on mastercards, rewards program and warranties over sales/customer service
    new owners make everyone from management on down nervous
    uncomfortable work environment

    Advice to Management

    Focus on customer service and product knowledge to make customers happy, not credit cards
    promote product/activity knowledge for employees
    sell guns/ammo, many customers come in for it, and leave when they don't find either.
