Pros
The people that i work with are great, the vendors that I deal with are the best of the best.
Cons
The company does not like to pay you well until you are an upper management roll, and getting to that postion is hard to due becuse they bring in outside people rather than promoting from within.
Pros
- IT department has gotten better in recent months
- New technology being implemented
- Casual dress environment
- IT has a work/life balance policy
Cons
- Use to have a great discount, but it was taken away
- Brutal work hours
- No labor day or day after Thanksgiving holiday
- No bonus this year
- You have to be at your desk from 8-5 or take PTO time
Advice to Senior Management
Figure out who you are as a company and execute a plan against that strategy.
Pros
The discount, which as of January of 2012, is going away. Unfortunately, outside of that, there really aren't many perks...it's your standard retail job. Decent benefits, I suppose.
Cons
Poor recognition, bad communication and a propensity for micro-managing. No time-and-a-half on holidays, which is a crime. I just worked 10 hours on Thanksgiving...absurd
Advice to Senior Management
We're in retail people. Understand that you can have a great-looking store, or a money machine...but not both. There is a happy medium and that should be the goal. If you want high CEI scores, stop giving your people so much to do that they have a hard time giving customers the attention they need/desire.
Pros
Great group with good leadership
New technology
Cons
Support issues
Lack of holiday time
Pros
Excellent compensation
Decent discount on purchases at stores (but now that's gone)
Wonderful group of people to work with
Saw many opportunities for improvements
Cons
Leadership only cares about themselves
Paranoid culture where mistakes were not tolerated and "rocking the boat" was discouraged
Organization is run by HR, not the individual business units
Advice to Senior Management
Give your managers and directors more support and authority to make business decisions
Acknowledge that the culture is toxic and needs to be fixed
LISTEN to what the employees have to say instead of what the VPs are saying
Pros
Worked with a very good team.
Some good people in various departments.
Corp discount is like crack to employees.
Cons
Nepotism rules.
Serious turf wars.
Corp HQ building is outdated.
Numerous staff in Merchant group that should have been shown out long ago.
Empty promises.
Lack of apparent direction by senior mgmt.
Advice to Senior Management
Invest in your staff.
Pros
The employee discount was excellent, cost + 10% which equated to 25% - 55% off everything I bought. There are some talented people there that are a real pleasure to work with.
Cons
Working in IT at the Sports Authority corporate office was the most unpleasant job experience I ever had. The turnover is extremely high. The mix of technology does not work well together. The amount of vendors and contractors make the environment over complex and there is a lot of finger pointing going on in management. Overall, employees working in IT at the corporate office are very unsatisfied.
Advice to Senior Management
There are a handful of directors that make the corporate office a bad place to work. Go to HR and review complaints against your managers and directors. Next review all of the employees that left the company in the last year. The directors with the highest amount of turnover and complaints should be escorted out of the building today.
Pros
well known
fun atmosphere
good benefits / discount
Cons
poor leadership
seems like the leaders at corporate are all about their own PR
We keep hiring these consultants as leaders even though the workers aren't getting results
who's running the company? Marketing????
Advice to Senior Management
Stop focusing on going public and start focusing on the people
Pros
offer a flexible schedule for those wanting part time for those more career minded full time & promotion opportunities exist.
Cons
Corporate mindset of decreasing staffing levels makes it difficult to offer top notch customer service coupled with heavy workload of seasonal floor changes can be difficult to feel satisfied
Advice to Senior Management
Keep staffing levels up your customers will appreciate the better service provided by a better trained and scheduled staff. Your competition has well staffed stores and good service because of it.
Pros
SA offered a great annual salary.
Cons
Unwelcoming, impersonal, poorly managed, high turnover, inappropriate, distrustful
Advice to Senior Management
The business should hold IS Dept accountable for its high turnover, poor management, and hostile culture.
