Pros
If you love sports, ofcourse its a cool place to work at.
Cons
Unorganization of management. And theirs more managers than regular employees most of the time..
Advice to Senior Management
Organize yourself!
Pros
Pretty easy job as a sales associate
Can be a fun atmosphere
Doesn't require any experience
Higher starting pay then competitors
Cons
No rewards for working more than peers
No recognition for outstanding work
No career paths in place
Training doesn't exist
Fair treatment doesn't exist
Sales managers get all of the credit but to only 1/4 of the work (other managers are also responsible for driving sales but don't get a bonus for sales like the sales managers)
Advice to Senior Management
Learning how to communicate with associates and customers is key to retaining and acquiring talent. Failure to do this will keep your stores making the minimum grades. Training employees also is key to running a business. Also, define the position and explain what it takes to get to the next level. Keeping people interested in their future helps moral.
Pros
Close to Home, Benefits, employee discount, fellow employee's fun to work with, use to be full time havent worked a full 40 hours in weeks
Cons
Management has no clue of what they are suppose to do, most are cashiers , since payroll keeps getting cut every week, no recognition for good work, expected to change schedule as the truck schedule changes, RDC has no clue of whats coming to you , when , how many pallets, Store Manager will send you home after working 4 hours into your scheduled 7 hour shift and then expect you to work 11 or 12 hours the next day when the truck arrives, morale at the store is as low as it can go, only thing that keeps people there are jobs are hard to find right now , and time invested in this company has surely gone to waste , RDC sends too much of one product , while your out of a hot seller for weeks, no employee's on the floor due to hours cutbacks, customers are basically on their own, you will never be in the top 50 companies they way the company is headed, sad to see, use to be a fun place to work, last year has 13 pdo's taken down to 10 pdo's so we could enjoy our time off more, what kind of crock is that? this year they will reduce them down even more i am sure, so you can enjoy them even more, enough for now, thanks for reading
Advice to Senior Management
Learn your job responsibilites, hold your self and other managers and employee's accountable, learn how to train , don't just throw new employee's out there and expect them to learn through osmosis
Pros
the salary and benifits package are nice
Cons
store management shows no communication
Advice to Senior Management
dont show favortism
Pros
Corp. Office fairly supportive, but depends on leadership from your Dist. Mgr. You will become a good merchandiser if you know what I mean.
Cons
Long hours, lots of weekends. You will work yourself hard.
Advice to Senior Management
You need to break out your thinking caps on work life balance and be the first Retailer to work your staff day hours M-Friday, with a rotating weekend coverage. You will be retail heroes and get all the best talent!
Pros
Pays the bills somewhat
good benifits (if you get the hours to keep them)
good discount
meet some good people
Cons
The employees that give a hundred and one percent dont get the credit deserved.
It's like dealing with High School Politics (As long as you are in the "In crowd "you'll be ok)
Micro Managenent is unbeliveable.
How can you be devoted to customer service when you have 300 task due NOW! NOW
Job constantly threatened( if you are a slacker you'll have a nice long carrer)
Advice to Senior Management
Listen to the ones doing the dirty work for you, not the ones who just sell you a few good lines.
I am baffled by some of the people I have watched move up the ranks in Sports Authority, meanwhile the worty ones pretty much get ran out because of the politics or get fed up with the run around.
Pros
- Full timers get 13 paid days off which can be used for ANY reason, as well as vacation time each year.
- If you deserve it, you will be promoted.
- Tuition reimbursement
- Commission
Cons
- They are so focused on getting replacement plans that it becomes annoying!!
- part timers usually get s*** hours
- payroll is very low
Advice to Senior Management
Be on top of employees more often, and make sure they arent doing nothing!
Pros
Selling products people like to buy.
Cons
Too many chiefs at the corporate level and not enough indians. Massively cut hours at store level but expected increased demands. Very threatening environment. Unprofessional motto: GO SELL SOMETHING.... Yes, that makes me motivated (Not). Too much emphasis on warranty and foot inner soles than product sales. Very negative corporate style management.
Advice to Senior Management
Restructure your senior mgmt, implement better more professional training. Encourage a more positive style of management than the current threatening hostile one. Admit financial problems rather than trying to find reasons to fire people to hire cheaper workers or unethical workers who will do whatever it takes.
