I worked at Sports Authority part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

At the time I was working, the employees that working with me were pretty nice, but not necessarily good workers.

    Cons

The pay was low, the manager was horrible (called out employees for small errors in front of customers), the Thanksgiving hours were heart-breaking and there was no room for growth unless you wanted to be the front-end manager. Poor morale, poor environment.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

MORALE is the key to keeping good employees. Try being sincere and personal and take care of yourself, too. Make work fun, pull people aside to talk to them instead of raging in public. Watch your sarcasm.

I have been working at Sports Authority part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

    Friendly environment
    Interaction with customers
    Selling sports equipment

    Cons

Depends on your management- (could be fun with good managers, but a drag if you have bad managers.)
Long hours- (depending on the amount of employees the store has)

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Hire enough employees to be able to cover the store it's hard as a sr sales associate to keep a certain dollar per hour while doing other peoples jobs like cashier, merch and cleaning crew.

I worked at Sports Authority part-time (less than an year)

    Pros

Sports Authority is definitely very laid back. As a cashier, I feel like I barely did much but still got paid. If hired for footwear however, you do have to reach certain numbers of sales.

    Cons

Unbelievable non-stimulating environment, not much to do to keep yourself busy.

I worked at Sports Authority full-time (more than 10 years)

    Pros

The promotions were available if you worked hard and could prove yourself.

    Cons

It was a very tense culture and micro managed like no other. You have to have thick skin to make it thru the 3-4 meetings per day.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

Don't try so hard to squash your managereservation spirit.

I have been working at Sports Authority

    Pros

The Web page said I needed at least 5 words. DO NOT WORK HERE, PERIOD!

    Cons

How any African American store managers are there? That's right, NONE. Many qualified associates. No training unless you consider a computer a good teacher. Second rate managers attempt to provide additional training but do not know or understand what it is they are teaching. Good job for an invalid or thief. Cost plus 15% discount. That means half off retail pricing based on margin. Abuse it while.you can. Hook up friends and family but be smart it is watched closely. To balance your pay buy at cost and sell to make a profit for yourself.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

For 8.00 an hour you can aggressively sign up customer loyalty accounts, ensure CEI is met, sell ECP, (Extended care plans), make sure to Look In Side All, increase overall sales or lose hours. Absolutely NO Loyalty! Never again.

I have been working at Sports Authority full-time

    Pros

Better pay then working for Vail resorts retail. Free merchant ski pass for full time employees. Decent health benefits. In store discount great

    Cons

No real training or development of upper management. District manager only seemed to choose his buddies for store managers. They were pretty unprofessional and incompetent. Especially the current store manager. He has no idea what he's doing so he frantically paces around the store harassing the staff with his extreme micro management. The issue with that is he's incapable of identifying things that need to be done so isn't able to actually assign tasks. Just scolds people for not working and alienates the staff.

I have been working at Sports Authority

    Pros

Close to home and employee discounts are good.

    Cons

Regular pay for working Holidays. Breaks are short and not well scheduled. I go to work and an hour later they put me on break, then I have to work another 6 hours.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

While I appreciate that I have a job, I work really long hours on holidays and only receive regular pay. If I am taken away from my family during the holidays it would be nice to at least have time and a half. I barely get a break on holiday Eve days such as the day before Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Christmas Eve. It's very clear employees are not very appreciated. I worked a 12 hour shift on Black Friday and got half hour break, do you think that is good?

    I worked at Sports Authority

    Pros

easy work, good co-workers, aside from that not much else

    Cons

they only hire part-time employees and the number of hours you get is based on how many people you sign up for their loyalty program.

    Advice to ManagementAdvice

stop micro-managing, stop allowing customers to return anything regardless of the condition of the item or if they do not have a receipt, it is hurting your bottom line .
